ok my mods before this upgrade is... free mods... 3 in' cat back exhaust... BOV... K&N fipk... and thats it right now... i have some extra money and i was thinking about getting the big 16g evo III. i have about 110k on the car. car runs good and stock t-25 still pulls nicely. i know the 16g evo III bolts right on with the 2g installation kit... but honestly do you think im going to have engine problems? the clutch i understand, which isnt much of a problem ill change it when its done... but if i get that turbo bolt that sucker on will i run into probs? i need some input on what you guys and girls think about me doing this upgrade.

thanks

You shouldn't have problems just so long as you keep the boost within reason, i wouldn't go higher then 12-13psi if you have a stock fuel pump... Its a good mod, even at those boost levels you should feel more power then a T-25 at 15-16psi..

BUT you definitly won't feel the real potential of the turbo unless you get the fuel mods, like pump, injectors, AFPR, datalogger/s-afc combo or DSMLink or something to tune it with... The Evo3 will do its best above 16psi!

To keep it short, as long as you keep the boost within reason and don't start pushing your luck you'll be fine. Wait till you get the supporting mods to raise the boost a bit, with a bigger pump you could probably squeeze 2psi or more, however the only real way to know is if you have a way to tune/monitor... I *highly* recommend at the least a Datalogging device along with the Evo3, just to be on the safe side...

Happy Boosting! :thumb: :dsm:

hey man, as far as your concerns with an upgraded turbo, you really have nothing to worry about as long as you get the fuel mods to support all that extra air coming in. As far as the clutch goes, if its the stock one expect to see it go within a month, i have a b16g and as soon as i put it on my clutch started slipping a few weeks later. Engine problems i really dont see anything you should be concerned about, the engine has been proven to handle more than 400hp so you should be fine. You might also want to find a way to recirculate your bov by the way unless you have a MAF. BY the way are you on rt18 alot? cause im always on there and i think ive seen your car a few times, mines a 97 green gst with a greddy fmic.

I did the EVO swap and i am still on stock clutch . Its all about how you drive it and how often you beat on it. Like said before if you do the swap you need , injectors (i did 550's), FP (did 190 ) i picked that FP becasue you can get away from buying a aftermarket FPR. The stock one should be fine with that setup (is for me). If you want to go the cheaper way for tuning. Then get a palm m100/105 (ebay 30.00) used SAFC (150.00) sync cable(serial) , and the multiplex eng box (85.00) and your done.

p.s
engine problems ? again all in how you drive the car.

hey. yeah i remember seeing you drive by, its nice to know some locals around here on here on dsmtuners...

i was thinking what if i did that turbo with the fuel pump? will i be happy with my performance? or should i do the turbo with the injectors? is that combo better? i can't get the fuel pump and the injectors.... or should i just get the turbo slap it on and wait to get the injectors and FP

ok just wanted to know if i get the evo III 16g turbo... and the fp 255 warlboro.... will i feel a nice difference? and is a front mount intercooler mandatory? or can my stock side mount be neccesary?

not to try to steal the thread. but im about to get a ported and clipped t28 for 400 with 11k on it. i was also thinking of doing the 16g or 18g turbo instead of the t28.

my quesiton is, is there going to be a difference between the t28 and 16g? if so how big of a difference?

the t28 spools quicker, but the 16g pulls harder up on top end... now dont steal my thread :D

Huge difference! Lets leave it at that, unless you want to start a search that will lead you to a years worth of reading. Im about to go from the FPBigT-28 to an EvoIII and all i can say is im going to miss the way my car LEAPS in first gear due to the quick as shit spool of the T-28 but ill soon forget when im boosting hard in the High RPMs on the 16g.

it shouldn't take that much longer to spool... but yes, you'll definately be loving the top end :thumb:

your stock side mount will really start to give out at anything over 17psi and will heat soak easily. even at like 12-13psi you should feel a better pull than on your t25 at 15psi

sounds good. looks like imma order the evoIII with a fuel pump 255... and might put it at 14 or 15 psi...

If you get the walbro 255 you will need an AFPR, I would recomend useing the Walbro 190, you won't need an AFPR. Also, the 190 is a little quiter than the 255. Just my .02

Agreed.

If you go with a 255, you will definitly need a AFPR, if you go with a 190 you won't need to, atleast not as bad. I would high recommend a logging device while your at it, people really underestimate the value of one...

I've logged runs on my EVOIII at 16-17 psi with walbro 190, stock 450's, stock smic, stock fpr and had zero knock till 3rd gear around 4500rpm then I got about 5 counts of knock.

Hope that helps.

Trust me, the Evo III 16G still "LEAPS" in 1st gear! :)

what do you mean knock?....

if i decide to wait for the fuel pump and get it at another time, should i keep it at 12psi or can i up it alittle more with m y stock fp? im asking this because im hearing i can do 15-16 psi... then i hear only 12psi

why push it hard if you dont have the mods to back it up ? Keep it at 12PSI. I know you can't wait to get it up and running but you make one small mistake trust me you will be waiting a lot longer saving up for another EVO turbo.
