I have a 98 gs-t with the usual bolt ons and mods. I will be upgrading to a 16G turbo and was wondering what else needs to be upgraded once the turbo is installed. I know i will need a better fuel pump but will the stock injectors still be ok? Do i need any kind of a/f controller? Anything other parts i may need? Do i need a dyno-tune after the install? thanks for any help or advice in advance.

yea the stock injectors will be fine...just keep the boost low. If you want to run higher boost then you'll need bigger injectors and some type of fuel controller like an AFC.

What are the limits of the stock injectors with the 16G? What should i upgrade them to if i decide to run higher boost?

I put in 550cc injectors when I installed my 16g and was running 17psi. When I put it on the dyno I was getting misfires because the afc was turned down so low. So don't put the injectors in until you get an fmic and start running 20psi.

Thanks for the advice Jimmy. Is it a good idea to get on the dyno after installation? Also is an AFC a must once the 16g is installed, i noticed most people with better turbos are using them but not all.

An AFC isn't a must when installing a 16g. It is used to compensate for larger injectors, but if you are running stock ones, it isn't needed.

Thanks for all the info so far. Have most of you with 16Gs followed up with a dynotune after installation of the new turbo? If so what kind of numbers is the car making and what other mods did you have?

If you buy a 190lph fuel pump, then you can probably get away with just that. That is the only fuel mod I have on my car with an FP Big28 turbo. If you get a 255lph pump, then you are going to need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. If you get bigger injectors, then you will need A/F control. You just have to make sure the boost is appropriate for whatever route you choose. I can run 16-17PSI with my setup reliably. I'm not sure the appropriate boost levels for a 16G though.

Actually Cow, you DONT need to adjust the FPR. Its fine the way it is. Im running 12.1's daily on a EVO III B16G and AMS never changed my FPR. I watched them dyno tune it and it was all based off the boost controller, boost gauge, EGT Gauge, Oil Presssure gauge, and AFC II controller....and my car isnt misfiring or anything...nobody went in the engine and changed my FPR. Just my BOV.

You don't need an AFPR, but more than likely your base fuel pressure is going to be high, thus making it harder to tune. It is possible to tune around it, it's just easier not to.

Low Pressure 255lph
660's
stock FPR

89 oct.

311whp

If you get a Highpressure unit, you should get an AFPR, but the low pressure unit is good enough to flow 300+whp with the stock FPR.
