My turbo is at its end. My car is spitting out blue smoke when I drive and my compression is good. I'm pretty sure it's the turbo. My question is, I have enough money to either buy a Big 28 or a number of suporting mods. What should I do. Get a new turbo, and run low boost until I can upgrade, or get supporting mods and hope my turbo holds up. I dont want to loose power. So if putting in a turbo would make me slower...I dont know. Im confused...I'm getting kinda tired of this. I heard all of the horror stories of expensive DSMs but I never thought they were that true...I was wrong

-If you're turbo is no longer any good, I would reaplace it asap. What good are supporting mods going to do you on a car with a bad turbo?

- If you are sure it's the turbo, Read my previous suggestion.

I dont want to loose power. So if putting in a turbo would make me slower...I dont know.

- If you think you're loosing power by bolting up something alittle bigger, What are you gonig to expect from a blown turbo?

- My only suggestion is to sell your car then, And buy something else. You are wrong for thinking you were wrong about ''unreliable dsm's''. You own a 10 year old car, Things WILL break. The only way a dsm is unreliable is if the previous owner, Or yourself, Did or does not take care of it, Constantly beats it, And does not keep up with the routine maintanance.

First of all, make sure it is your turbo. You wouldn't want to spend all that money on the turbo and find out it was something else. If it is, buy the BigT28 (waste IMO, but your right about it bolting up), get an MBC and keep the boost down.

That's not true. If you keep up with your car, all you will have to do is maintenance. If you drive the hell out of it, you will have to take much better care of it. DSMs are no more expensive than any other cars, the real problem is that DSMs are cars that can be cheaply upgraded for good amounts of power. That means we're cheap, not that our cars are expensive. Know the difference, enjoy your car!

Well...I'm only 17 and what I consider expensive really isn't. When I first got the car, it seemed in great shape. The timing belt was changed 5,000miles ago. The car seemed to never be driven hard. It was in really good condition. Well...I took it in for a check up and my mechanic told me for some reason the guy didnt replace the water pump at 120,000 miles like he shouldve...no biggie...replace it. He goes to replace it and notices whoever did the last timing belt job over tigheten nuts and bolts and everythings...So things were breaking and things need replaced. Pulleys were bent. Ended up costing me like $800...then there was the fact that I wasnt use to the AWD turbo thing (my own mistake) and i needed a clutch replacement...and thats ended up costing me over $1,000. Ive only had the car for 2 months and only been able to put like $350 into performance parts :notgood: I wish I had a better job. So it's not really that expensive...just to a poor little 17 year old it is...

Yeah dude, it is alot of money.

A couple things:

1. Buy a turbo if it is bad, or the car will run crappy

2. Consider doing your own work (if money is an issue), this is getting spendy.

3. When you are done it should last quite a while. Change oil and tranny oil frequently.

4. Welcome to the board and to DSM's. May you never part with your DSM! :thumb:
