I know this is a real big noob question. But I want to upgrade my turbo. I looked around and the T28 seems to be around $800 and the 16G is cheap, but you have to change your down pipe, and thats all just too confusing for me. My question is, what all do I need to do this? I have a boost gauge and GReddy BOV. I'm getting SPEC stage 2 clutch this weekend. I was planning on getting a FMIC, UIC piping, fuel pump, intake pipe, I have a KN filter, eventually get a turbo back exhaust...but not right now. I was going to get a MBC. I dont plan on running alot of boost. Do I need to get new injectors? Whats the max PSI I should go with the stock injectors? And this is going to make me sound like a real retard...but I'd rather ask the question, then regret buying something. What is the difference between internally and externally gated? Which do I want? which is better?

ahh yeah i was in the same situation 2 months ago. i also have the t04b vtrim turbo. what i have right now is. 650 fic fuel injectors. 190 lph fuel pump. dejon tool dual stage mbc, full exhaust, autometer boost gauge, and i just ordered the safc 2, And then i gotta get something to datalog it with.
so this is basically everything that you should get too. but for sure upgrade them injectors and dont run shit for boost until you get a safc 2 to tune them. need nething else let me know

You're running 650's without anything for injector compensation? That's gotta run like shit.... good thing that SAFC is on the way. OMG

I would not try screwing with leaning it out until you can get that datlogger in.

I'd say the minimum supporting mods to run 20psi on that turbo is an mbc, 650cc or larger injectors, and something to control them, ie chip, safc, maf translator (I run a translator and I like it). I'd also include a logger cause it makes tuning much more straight forward.

Anything you do after that to make the car run faster is up to you.

I installed mine a week ago on a pretty much stock car, with 450 injectors, and I had no problem running 9psi with no knock.

You have to keep in mind that you need to add the cost of an internal wastegate, oil drain and feed lines, gaskets, and probably an outlet elbow, and THEN compare to the price of a t28.

I say internal wastegate, cause external would add too much complexity and cost and you don't sound like you wanna go there. I'm not sure there's much benefit to an external wastegate setup at all, the bullseye internal wastegate seems to work pretty well.
