Well, I'm not much of a blogger perhaps. But I'm bored and figured hey why not throw something up here. The ol talon is gone. I sold her after an unfortunately incident where an idiot decided to run a red light and take out the wife's daily driver. PLPD FTL! I sold the talon to afford a down payment on a new dd. An 04 Corolla.
That was August of 08, fast forward to 2 days ago. When I drove my new 1990 talon tsi awd home 52 miles without a hitch!
A few months after selling the last dsm I kept talking to buddies and admitting I'd been cruising the classifieds looking at dsms for sale. Of course I didn't have the money to afford any of them, but I wanted something fun to drive again, not to mention something to track and take to the shootout. I've been to 4 straight shootouts without a dsm
Then my buddy brian called and asked if I wanted another 90. Of course I laughed and said no way I couldn't afford it. Then he hit me with "it's free". Well of course free was a relative term, the car had no interior, no engine, no trans, no ecu, no rear end, basically nothing but a BARE shell. So again I started backing out, but then I started getting more info. The guy who had found the shell was trying to save it from the scrap yard and couldn't take on another project so he had given Brian the phone call. What he did have was a whole lot of parts he was willing to throw in the car, including a rear end and most of an interior. Another guy would give me a sweet deal on a good 14b. Another a free sbr manifold. A great deal on a 6 bolt with fresh bearings in the bottom end. Brian kicked in with a bunch of free spare parts as well. Then the kicker, a well known trans builder supplied me with a freshly rebuild trans for a steal you can't even dream up! I had no place to assemble the car so a buddy in Kzoo let me borrow his garage and access to his spare parts bin.
Project 14b dizzum was under way!
For the record, even with all the great deals that I got, I still ended up wrapping a bit of cash up into the car. It's amazing how long it can take you to build a car when every bolt, nut, and spare part has to be found by digging through piles of spare parts and buckets of bolts. But finally after a couple months of working on it about one day a week (work) she fired up and roared to life. I wanted to finish buttoning everything up but I had to get it home and out of my buddies garage so it came home 2 days ago and now sits in my apartment complex. It's ugly, it needs a boost leak test, a full exhaust (currently running open 3" downpipe) and a few more odds and ends as well as a paint job, but at least she runs and drives.

Current mods

I'll try to update this thing every now and then. For now I need to finish her up and hopefully hit the track once before the shootout. I am finally taking a dsm to the shootout!
