For those of you who remember my "new head...wont start" thread I finally found the problem yesterday. I found out my car is ####ed up pretty good. If you remember I put a brand new rebuilt head on my car around the begining of December. Well my car has been running like shit ever since and wouldnt start in the mornings when it was cold and would idle really low. I thought I had a vac leak somewhere but I couldnt find the problem. I just got a job at an auto repair shop so yesterday I brought my car in and had one of the mechanics take a look at it. They couldnt find any vac leaks so did a compression test. 110 115 80 125. They are all leaking but obviously the #3 is the worst. Did a leakdown test and I have 95% leakage in the #3! Its going out the exhaust valves and past the rings a tiny bit but its mostly the valves. :( We ran the #3 to TDC and losened up the cam. Then there was only 60% leakage which is still pretty bad but you can see the valves arent seating right. SO we are pretty sure the machine shop never grinded down the valves so they could close all the way. I have basically been running on 3 cylinders ever since i put that head on. I am thinking about picking up some 95 pistons and forging them on my rods and get new rings and rod bearings when I pull the head. I am gonna take it back to the machine shop and go off on them. That head cost me $450 and they screwed it up so they are gonna hear about it trust me. So yeah thats the deal as of right now. Hopefully I can fix it within a week if I can find some 95 pistons soon.

Geese man you have had so many problems with that head. That is rediculous. It's those few technicians that screw up the reputations for the rest of them. Have you ever seen that realy old discount tire commercial where that old lady throws the tire through the window? I picture you doing that too but with that head. With the swap to 95 pistons you are obviously going to have to remove the rods to get them machined to fit the new pistons. I imagine that you will also be replacing the rod bearings but with new rod bearings does anyone know if the crank will need to be honed or machined? Because I don't think RB wants to pull the motor and niether would I if I where him. He's already got enough things to do. I want to hear what this head shop is going to do about the situation also so keep us updated! Good luck with everything man. I think you should be certifed in DSM head R&R!

Yes this will be the 6th time I have had to pull this head!!

I was also wondering about the crank needing to be honed or whatever they do to make sure the rod bearings seat properly. Is it really that big of a deal? Cus like S8er said I really dont want to pull the motor. If it comes to that I may just get the head done and throw it back on and live with it instead of pull the entire engine.
