unplug the maf sensor and its fine

I know there have been some similar threads but not exactly like this. I'm posting this for a friend. when the car is running it sputters, run but doesn't run like normal, when you unplug and plug back in the maf it runs great. Is this a bad Maf sensor or what could this be?

do you notice it run better as soon as its unpluged or do you have to plug it back in do not drive with it just unplugged but let it idle

When i UNPLUGED my maf it idle'd great but wouldn't rev high. Plugged it back in and my sputtering continued. Odd. I'd like to know what this is.

that's what we were thinking but not completely sure.

before you shell out big bucks for a new maf try getting some MAF cleaner in a spray can and go to town on it. just be sure to leave it open and let it evaporate before you drive it again
