I found an Alt belt that fits well and is in stock normally at an autozone.

Gatorback 4040320.

Thanks

Hey guys. I am building a 4g63t in my garage currently. and i have come to the point where i need to put my underdrive pulleys on. but I relised that, I dont know what pulley goes in what spot, so i got this motor, and i need to put the pulleys on. can you explain to me what pulley goes in what spot? i dont have any pulleys on at all accept for the one running off of the alternator. So I could really use the help with pictures or if anyone just knows for experiance. thanks guys.

the big one goes on the bottom. They should be pretty much plug and play. When I did my waterpump, I had to take them off and it was plug and play. Look for indicators as to what goes where, who the bolts line up etc.

yeah. i'll give it a Whirl. i just kinda wanted to make sure i did it rite ya know. so i was looking to see if anyone had pictures of them or something. ### i need to get my pulleys on asap.

Alright, so I've narrowed down my problem and due to the symptoms and my research, I think my crank pulley has separated from the harmonic dampener or whatever. Correct me if I'm wrong... When my belt squeels like a bi*** and there is a clicking/knocking noise, this has to deal with the crank pulley (especially if it's coming from that exact region)? This exact same noise happened to my brother's civic and it was the crank pulley. Anyways, my real question is, what should I get? OEM, Ebay, MachV, or Unorthodox, or maybe something I don't know about? I figure that while I'm replacing it, why not get some performance out of it, so I don't think I want a stock one. I don't really know if i'd trust ebay since their underdrive pulleys are under $50, so it's between MachV and Unorthodox. MachV seems to be a better deal, it's about $149 shipped and Unorthodox is about $50 more. Give me some opinions, cause I need to order the part soon. I really hate having to bum rides off my friends everywhere.

You can tell if its the crank pulley. It'll normaly move side to side when the engines running(if the rubber has split)
I went with stock.. Why? Because it had the harmonic dampener, which take vibrations from the crank.. Most aftermarket crank pulleys, do not have the harmonic dampener. There are one or two I believe that do, you might want to check them out. I'm not sure if it'll be underdrive, or just a lightened pulley..

So is it THAT bad/risky to go undampened, since plenty of people do it? How much is the stock pulley? my friend said that the belt was really wobbley when starting up and the clicking noise is distinctly coming from the pulley. Is the underdrive worth the money, and does it help your performance very much?

You will see very little gain from an underdrive/lightened pulley.
I can't tell you if it's bad/risky.. It's up to you. Just try to realize all the extra vibration and stress that will be put on your crankshaft. For any non street application i'd recommend it definitely to push every hp out of the car possible. I bet your money could be spent better elsewhere.
If your bent on it, look around for one with the dampener in it.
I believe mine cost 100some from Mitsu..
Good luck!

I agree with the post above me...Youll generally only notice hp gains from pulleys off the line and in low rpms, but other than that no they dont do much... Ive heard some pulleys having ill effects, i.e. alternator pulley ( making alternator die quicker ) but im sure everyone has different opinions and experiences with them... I think im going to just get a power steering pulley if I get one at all since I dont care if that messes up because if it does Ill remove it completely... Just get a lightened flywheel and skip the crank pulley but if you already got it just try it out and tell us how it goes later down the line..
And the belt squeeling, does it only do it in the mourning or when you first crank it, could mean you should just change your belt/ and or tighten the pulley itself a lot of cars have belt squeel because of that...

Well you see, that's the thing... it used to just do it in the morning or after school/letting it sit for a while. Now, it kind of hesitates when turning over, but then goes fine and runs smooth, but I can feel vibration from the clicking noise through the clutch pedal. Anyway, everytime I turn it over, it will squeel anywhere from 10-20 seconds straight and the clicking/knocking noise isn't a steady beat... it's more so sporatic if I were to describe it. If there isn't very much point in getting an underdrive pulley, i'll just go with stock...As long as I go out and buy a Chilton's manual and a torque wrench, I can do this on my own with my friend right? I assume it's a pretty simple fix?

It's really visible if it's split(with the wobbling).. But in the morning/first start really sounds like a loose/old belt.

It's really easy to do, 4(12mm, i believe) bolts. And yes they will be torqued on there like a mofo. You'll most likely need the torque wrench, possibly a breaker bar/extension pipe. and your friend will need to jam up the flywheel with a flathead, to prevent it from turning, probably.

Do you know who makes your pulley? and which belt are you looking to replace, the p/s & a/c or the alternator belt? I know i have a custom car grills 20% UDP and the p/s a/c belt napa replacement # is: 25-050490.

Don't buy it. We need harmonic dampening on the crank. If you really want an aftermarket pulley for whatever reason, look into Fluidampr. Other than that, get the OEM one or don't touch it.

I wouldnt buy an aftermarket crank pulley unless it had an integrated dampner like the one Buschur used to sell.

One minute before me. You type to fast.

I don't think i'd buy any moving part off ebay. If it's important on the car and could cause serious damage you probably shouldn't get it off ebay. Id buy something like an 02 housing off there that worst thing happens its only cracked. Who else makes one with a harmonic damper that doesnt cost as much as fluidyne? Unorthdoxracing ?
