Hey guys, I modded this BOV the correct way. Did the dodge garage mod to it, the BOV is 100% uncrushed, I boost leak tested today and the BOV leaks out of the discharge opening. Also when the car idles you can hear the BOV leaking because I think the vacuum is pulling it open.

Anyways is there an O-ring around the valve that can leak? I really do not want to crush it for the fear of the BOV not blowing off anymore and being unable to reverse the crushing.

Let me know what you guys think!

Thank you!

Your right about vacuum pullin it open. The spring is supposed to prevent this, but since the BOV is about 20 years old, it's probably a bit weak. Remember that BOVs work on pressure difference so since there is more vacuum in the intake manifold than the intake pipes, it's pulling the BOV open. Just one more reason to recirculate. There is nothing wrong with crushing a 1g BOV so long as you do it right. It will help it hold boost and stay closed at idle.

There is also no o-ring on the actual valve, just machines surfaces.

Ok I might have to crush it tomorrow a little bit to see if the increased spring tension will help it not leak during the 30psi boost leak test, I guess it will be a good reason to also fix the problem of it opening during idle, the 10.5-11AFR at idle and whistling was getting really annoying. I can't recirc because my 4inch FP intake didnt come with the recirc port welded on :(

Anyways thanks for any input!

I would double check that rich idle when my bov leaked it was always lean because the car was getting unmetered air.

Try sucking the valve open with a vacuum pump and cleaning the sealing surfaces well and see if it changed. Just a little piece of dirt will cause it to not seal. You should not need to crush it to get it to seal. Crushing them makes the valve open less which makes it less efficient, that is why i don't recommend it. The mechanical advantage that the larger diameter diaphragm has over the smaller piston that seals the valve should hold it closed regardless to how old the spring is. It is perfectly normal for the valve to be open at idle. You should have it recirculated so that you don't have to worry about that.

Recirculate or convert to SD. If you go SD and leave uncirculated, it's not a bad idea to get a little filter on it so you don't suck any nastiness in through the BOV under vacuum.

Ok Guys I cleaned the BOV up really good, mainly were the valve makes contact with the Body itself, and I also crushed the BOV until the nipple makes contact with the top hat of the BOV, installed it back on the car, and it still leaks :(

I am not gonna mess with it anymore, just gonna buy a Forge and fix it the correct way this time instead of welding it and destroying the BOV.
