Ultimate Noob Question... Anyway To Tell Whats In My Car? [PICS]

I bought my car from a guy who did a bit of mods, however the owner or owners before him he didn't know what was done.

Figuring I just found whats most likely a DSMLink cable, I figured one of the previous owners may have put some other types of upgrades in the car, such as a MAF, fuel injectors, etc. that may be a little more difficult to find.

Before I go messing around with any ECU tuning, or really any other mods, any recommendations on going about finding what would all be in my car? I know it sounds bad to even ask, but I'd rather be safe then sorry. I've seen friends and other destroy cars because they didn't know or thought they had more then they did.

I'm guessing easiest would just be a local DSM'er right, but any other options I could explore? I don't mind spending a few bucks to have someone take a look so I have a clear plan going forward of mods and upgrades.

Those wires look either extremely dirty or there just old as dirt, and dirty..Like Calan I would suggest new plugs wires, and fuel filter, along with pvc vavle..You can never do too much maintenence..

I just bought NGK (9634) ME64 wires. When driving it a while back, either a plug misfired or fuel injector cut off... the car started to stall while on the highway but was most likely due to the heavy load on the engine of going up and down hills at 55mph

Did you buy NGK BPR6ES plugs and gap them properly?

I bought them, but have not gaped them yet. Will be putting then in maybe tonight or tomorrow but need to go to get the tool first to gap them properly

Get a $4 set of feeler gauges; they come in handy for lots of other things as well.

I don't even know what fry's electronics is..I didn't even know what harbor freight was untill I moved to a better area..As you can tell we don't have very cool stuff where I'm from..

HF = the best cheap throw-away tools on the planet.

(It's pretty hard for even China to screw up a set of feeler gauges or screwdrivers. )

I know right..I even bought my welding helmet there..My friends were all getting brand new Jacksons, but you know us dsmers we cant turn down a deal..I mean It's not a as quick changing as a jackson, but if you squint at first, you will have no problems with flash burn..

I love how cheap there stuff is..And to top it off my harbor freight helmet is 4 years old and still works..Take that 300$ Jackson helmets..

Yeah... They get a bad rap, but I don't know how many Pittsburgh wrenches and sockets I have laying around that I've beat the crap out of for the last 10 years that are still going strong. They aren't Craftsman or Snap-On by any stretch, but their simple tools work great for everyday blue-collar stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a 2g exhaust manifold? If so, it's a great upgrade over the stock 1g exhaust manifold.

Pittsburgh is lifetime warranty like craftsman, my brother broke a Pittsburgh torque wrench got free replacement.

Any tool with lifetime warranty is what to look for, instead of brand name.

I use crafstmen tools,,There less pricey than off the mac truck on snap on truck, but they still come with a lifetime warrenty..I've never used use harbor freight sockets are antything but some of their stuff can last.Like you said

With an unboxed air filter sitting in a hot engine bay...that's not a CAI.
