Hey guys. I just recently bought a Turbo XS BOV Type H-RFL. When I got the part all that was in the box was the BOV itself with the atmosphere blow off, 2 cylinder aluminum pieces (one is thicker then the other), the wrench, and the washers. I got no install guide or anything like that. So my question is this: I have a 97 Mitsubishi eclipse GSX what else do I need if anything to install this BOV onto my car? I have hear that u can just plug it in and go, I heard u have to weld it, or there is some sort of bolt on kit that bolts onto your pipe somehow. So if you could please get back to me and let me know how I can install this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks:dsm:

If you have the stock UICP (plastic), you can just bolt on a flange (it did come with a flange... right?). I'm not sure what "two cylindrical aluminum pieces" are... it might be helpful to be more descriptive ;) or attach a picture of what you have.

Also, I have to ask if you have a stock MAF and how you plan on recirculating that bov. Be warned that the wrong answer might get you flamed (not by me, I'm a nice guy).

Edit: After doing some research on turboxs, I believe the two cylinders are the flange. Do they fit onto the bottom of the bov? One of them should be the right size to fit in the hole of the crappy plastic UICP, which you can use a t-bolt to clamp, and also fit the bov on top.

If that doesn't work, I believe you will need to buy an adaptor that lets you fit the turboxs flange onto the stock flange.

Beware of boost leaks and recirculation and your tune... however by the purchase of this bov I'm going to go ahead and assume that performance is not your priority.

Yes there is a install kit that cost i believe something like $70. Or you can do what i did and go to lowes and get a L fiting and a rubber tube to connect to the RFL for about $5. ;)

ok here are some pics....this is a pic of the BOV that i have and the second pic is what i think everyone is telling me i need but i have no idea what that flange bolts too???? im so confused i just want my BOV on LOL:dsm:

If you have any intention of upgrading your pipes(didn't look at your profile) then I'd go to www.dejonpowerhouse.com for pipes that come with a TXS flange. IMO, the quality, and affordability are second to none.

Also, I only speak for myself, but my TXS leaked like hell. Also, be prepared for a seriously ragged idle, unless you have at the least some kind of blow-thru setup.

ok well i tried getting the other pic up there but for some reason i cant get it posted...basically i just wanna get the thing on so i can hear it and get it out of my room and onto my car. Is it really worth all the troubles or is there a better BOV i can go with that can fit better or should i stick with what i have and try to figure out how to get the thing installed?

I'm gonna go ahead and say you should not have gone with that turboxs because you can't recirculate it... and that is a cardinal sin of DSMs (unless you know what you're doing).

I know my Greddy came with flange in box to bolt on to the crappy stock UICP.

ok so if you recomend a greddy bov then what type would you say would work best for my car? i have heard about the recurculation warning. I am very new to the world of DSM and i want to find a good sounding BOV but also has a nice level of performance.

Greddy type RS. It's the bov that replaces the older, very popular type S. The RS can also be fitted to recirculate :).

Actually, venting is not the sin. Trying to convince others that it's okay or asking for help troubleshooting resulting problems is.

Ok so in otherwords it is okay for me to vent to the atmosphere. Anyways thats not my point my point is that i wanna be able to install this BOV the best way possible and i dontt know how. If anyone has this BOV let me know how u installed it or what i can do to mount the thing correctly. Thanxs:dsm:

You completely missed the entire point of what No_Skillz and Wret have tried to tell you. YOU DO NOT want to vent to the atmosphere if you are running a stock MAF. Doing so will create multiple problems (although not necessarily catastrophic) with your driving experience. Installing a BOV is a matter of getting the appropriate flange welded onto your UICP, mounting it, positioning to face the intake pipe, and recirculating it. If you'd like a recommendation on a nice sounding BOV, then look into a Greddy BOV (my favorite, there are also others). The Type S has a distinct high whistle sound to it, while the RS is more of the traditional WHOOSH. Either one sounds great and don't leak. Also, if you are still on your stock UICP, you will need to get one of those flange adaptors for whatever BOV you end up using and it attaches to the stock UICP with a worm clamp.

Well said. To add, if you MUST vent, you MUST have some kind of blowthrough set up. If you don't, and I'm speaking from my own experience you will have idling and stalling issues that will annoy the living hell out of you. Where I'm not sure if you can have a blowthrough set up without a GM MAF/MAFT, taking a look at www.dejonpowerhouse.com can help put you in the right direction. Lastly, I still vent, and always will. However, going to a blow-through setup removes the issues that you will have venting with a stock mas.

Good point, but somehow I don't think that is the path that will be taken. You can also get a VPC.

I don't want you to waste your money. Can you return it? If not, maybe sell it on ebay for a small loss...? I suggest another recirculatable BOV as well, but if you absolutely can't/are not willing to get rid of it and are REALLY concerned about the sound, you could just vent to atmosphere. :| Just keep in mind that your car is not performing as well as it can be.

i have a 97 gst and when i bought the car it had a turbo xs type h that was venting. the car runs fine and it doesnt stall or anything. i recently bought the type h rfl and i was wondering does this mean there is something mysterious about my car since it is venting and it doesnt stall or fall on its face?

I have a RFl on my car and its been on there for close to 5 months and i dont ahve any problems with it. I put a BOv that i could recir. but i didnt notice any difference like most people do so i put it back on. And i love scaring people with it ;)

I used to have a RFL on my old GSX. The car would idle rough, stall sometimes, backfire between shifts every now and then, and run very rich. I guess since the previous 2 posts said they did not experience this that it would depend on your car, different cars are different. I recommend selling the BOV and getting one that recirculates, but to each their own.
