my friend is going off to school, and he has a Turbo XS Type H blow off valve sittin around. he had a talon for it, but that kinda went to shit...anyway, he's letting me have it, im getting it installed wednesday...does anyone have this BOV and have any comments on it or nething. im lookin forward to wednesday. :talon: :)

well im takin it to a performance shop here in town, and they said they are gonna do a home made, custom adapter for it... is it vital to have the translator for the BOV to work?

The BOV will work, but the car will occasionally stall and your gas mileage will be slightly worse. I have the same BOV and wish I had a different one.

No, the BOV will work and function fine. It's your A/F ratio that will go to shit when you shift! See, the TXS BOV vents the air to the atmosphere, but the stocker recirculates it back into your intake. So how the stock intake is setup, is that the air sensor (MAS) is BEFORE the BOV, so it "assumes" all the air coming through the air filter will go into the engine. But if your BOV is venting some of that air out, then the ECU isn't getting an accurate reading, right? So, if the ECU thinks there is more air going into the intake then there really is, the ECU will have fuel for that air that was vented, making it run rich when you shift. It will bog, sputter, etc when you shift. Now with some cars, the bogging isn't all that noticeable, but you do loose performance.

So what do you do? Well luckily, there is a great product called the MAF Translator (MAFT). This lets you use a GM MAF (the air-flow sensor found on most GMs) instead of your stock MAS, but you can hook it up in a blow-thru style. This probably makes no sense, so I made the attached diagram. Anyway, as you can see from the diagram, the GM MAF reads the air right before the TB, so it gets the EXACT count of what goes into the engine, so the ECU can give the engine the EXACT amount of fuel! With the stock MAS, it reads the air right after it comes in, so it just assumes that all the air stays in the intake system. Now the turbo might leak a tiny bit out, etc, so this isn't the best way to do it. And if you have the BOV venting a lot of air out, then the ECU has an even more inaccurate air measurement!

I wrote all this, not just for you, but because a lot of people ask this question, so if they read this thread they can understand exactly how it works! Good luck, get that GM MAF and translator, and enjoy scaring the shit out of people with that BOV. I'm pretty sure that the RFL stands for "Really F-u-c-k-i-n' Loud"! No, I didn't make that up either, other people say the same thing!
