I hid mines in the ash tray compartment, out of sight, and clean!
 
Most single DIN install kits for our cars come with either a plastic tray, or block-off plate for the second slot. I ran a single DIN stereo like 5 years ago, and used velcro tabs to install it to the face of the block-off plate.

Yeah i just bought my HKS turbo timer today and was wondering about the popular places to mount it.. i like the radio idea best.. but where do u find the bezels that block off the bottom of the empty space when using an aftermarket deck?
 
Here is how I mounted mine. I think its a nice clean location and it held up with double sized tape.

Found a perfect spot for mine that doesn't glare at night and that I can still see good.
