Hey,
I've had this turbo sitting around and figured I might ask about it and if it will work the way I want it to.
The turbo is a garret GT1752. .53 a/r and exhuast is .17
If i just bolt this turbo on I figured it will boost at idle or almost around 1500, so I wanted to know if I use just 2 exhuast ports like they do on a saab 9-3 will it boost later and which ports could i go with. I figured 2&3 would be the ones to use since my performance header will let me shape the tubes around easier.

I have heard of light pressure turbos for increasing efficiency and having zero lag, but I have never heard about the 9-3's setup. Do you have a link for this information?

Why would you only want to use 2 exhaust ports? Remember, the turbo is also hooked up to the intake, so if it's that small, it may even be worse than n/a. If you have the extra exhaust energy, why not use it? You would have better results with a bigger turbo using all 4 ports. If you are going to be spooling that soon with all the exhaust, you'll also be choking the turbo out at higher rpms, killing its life, and being a huge restriction at the same time. I don't see the point.
^This is if it is the size you say it is, I am not familiar with it.

I see what you are saying. The saab motor is almost like the 420a in terms. they use the 2&3 ports and bypass 1&4 to allow the boost to kick in latter. I have a link to the manifold picture to show you.

If this turbo was set to 6 or 7 psi wil it still over run its self with a .53 a/r ? The turbo is almost like a t25 but a little less in size

The Saab does not bypass any of the exhaust ports. #2,3 go to the collector behind #1,4, you just can't see it in the picture. It's probably designed like that to keep the pulses from 1,4 and 2,3 separate because of how they affect each other with its firing order, or just manufacturing purposes. Horrible looking design for functionality anyway just by looking at it. Abrupt turns, 2/3 merge into one before the collector, not even near equal length runners. Gah.

I have never heard of anyone trying to make boost come on later. Thats like saying I want a small turbo that spools slow like a large one, but without the top end.

That is true the manifold is horrible looking. But You think this turbo is useless even though saab gets 210 hp out of the turbo at 5psi even with all 4 ports hitting the turbo. The efficients of the turbo will probably top its power out around 5 or 6k.

I'm just using it to get some power not to use it for drag or anything - every day driver type deal.
