So i've been reading up on how turbos work and what not and i have a few questions
I want to upgrade my 14b to something bigger but i'm not quite sure what. I was thinking a big16g but i was wondering what's a bigger turbo than the big16g that will still bolt up to my manifold and o2 housing and that obviously has an interal wastegate system.

maybe something like a hybrid? -thanks

Depends on your goals. e316g's are a pretty good bang for the buck. Spool quick and flow 30% more air than the 14b. They have a larger compressor wheel too. Pretty much any turbo you can order has an option for a DSM bolt up.
It'd be great if you could tell me some goals. :thumb:

Definitely wait to buy your injectors if you're unsure of your turbo size. You don't want to end up with 550's and get a great deal on a 20G to be stuck at 18psi.

You definitely don't want to pick something too large right off the bat or you'll be disappointed when running low boost. Other things to consider will be the amount of airflow a larger turbo will produce and the possibility of overrunning your stock Mass Airflow Sensor...not that upgrading to a 2G MAS is a huge issue- it just adds more cost and the necessity for a tuning device.

The TD05H 20G is definitely my favorite street turbo. Full bolt-on capability....uses all the stock oil lines and coolant lines. Spools almost as fast as a 16G while pulling much harder on top- doesn't have the lag that a TD06-turbined 20G would.

alright. well i mean i'm in the middle of a big project right now and just replaced my headgasket, got arp headstuds, and 272's. i'm throwing on a fmic w/ gm maf/maft and a walbro 255 at the moment. i have some 550's that i purchased but should i sell them and go 650's? and get a 20g?

also i'm looking to have a street car that can just pull hard and is fun to go fast and take to the track every once in awhile and get some decent numbers. i have a ported 2g o2 housing, will that bolt up to the 20g?

A buddy of mine ran a 12.69 a few seasons ago with a Big 16G @ 18psi, 550's, 2.5" Buschur turbo-back exhaust, Supra Sidemount, 2G MAS, and a completely stock engine in his '91 TSi AWD.

Honestly, 550's and a Big 16G are a simple upgrade that guarantee 12's with a good tune. I'd just go that route if I were in your shoes. It'll feel night-and-day faster than what you have.

that's actually suprising to me. i was hoping to just get high 13's on my set up. i can probably push my 14b to it's limits with my set up now.

What is the highest boost i can run with my 14b safely?

Do you think i can run low 13's with this set-up and drop to 12's if i just put in a 16g?
-thanks

other quick question is what are the most effecient PSI's for the 14b, 16g, and 20g?

Did he use any tuning devices?

and i also heard that just running the maft for tuning is not a good idea if you want to be properly tuned and isn't good for anything bigger than 550's basically. Should i purchase an SAFC?

An old-school SAFC 1.

Tranlator-tuning alone will get you in the ballpark, but you'll still be able to unlock power through tuning your air/fuel ratio more precisely with the AFC. Another benefit would be the in-car tuning ability that the translator would not give you.

well technically if you get the 6 foot extension cables you can have the maft in the cabin and away from the elements allowing easier tuning.
