Hi guys,

I'd like some advice about my turbo for a 2nd generation eclipse gst.
I now have a T3/T4 turbo, but want to go to something higher/better. I'd like to have more power.

I got an AEM EMS and 650cc injectors, so what do you suggest? I'm not on a very high budget, so I looked on ebay.com, but since there are so many different models and price ranges, I find it hard to choose.

Anyone who has experience with the SS Autochrome turbo's or something?

Thanks in advance

Please fill out your vehicle profile so we know what supporting modifications you have.

SSAutochrome turbos are knock-off turbos, so you buy these at your own risk. It's much better to buy from a reputable vendor like ForcedPerformance or Turbonetics, etc. and have their technical support if you should find yourself needing more information, rather than buying from SSAutochrome, which has NO technical support whatsoever.

I don't know anyone with good experience from their turbos even if they don't fall apart right away they spool slower and don't pull as hard as a similar turbo from a rep. company. A t3/t4 turbo tells us nothing about your turbo just the type of flange you're using. What are you looking to upgrade to ? what exactly do you have now? IF you go cheap and buy ebay your going to regret it.

"not on very high budget" + "needing turbo bigger than a T3/T4" leaves one few options.

SSAC turbos are knock offs. I've heard of some working, I've heard of some failing. I do see a trend that they don't perform as well as their reputably manufactured counterparts. We have no idea what your current setup is, so how could we know what an upgrade would be?

There are T3/T4's with itsy bitsy turbine housings capable of ~300hp max and there are ones that can make 600hp.

How much power do you want? What's a "limited budget"? Even if you have ballpark figures on any of this we can kinda push you in the right direction.

Why not start with a goal of maxing out your bottom end (or your current turbo for that matter if it's not already) and go from there.

I don't know what the specs are for the turbo I have now, there is no mark on it, just a number I have to check when I get home.

I'll take some pictures so maybe anyone here knows which turbo it is.

I want to get a turbo which can handle 500-600 hp. If there ain't one on my budget, then I have to save a bit longer. I don't want to buy cheap now and get a sh*tload of costs after installing.

here are some pics from the turbo, the number is 20357

That's the .48 turbine housing. Depending on the trim level of the wheel that can totally hurt the performance of that turbo. Good spool on a modified engine, but will likely be a cork in engines making big power (I define big power being 300-400hp on up). My honest opinion? I don't mind waiting a little bit to get my boost, I'm not racing around a track, and if I need it spooled up I can stutterbox or shift.

Personally I would not run a garret turbo without a .63 housing or larger. I've run some .48's on a 4 cylinder, I've also ridden in a .63 car with similar displacement and modifications. The boost rise is quicker with the .48, but the .63 will be passing you after you've had your boost fun. You should PM some people who have made garret swaps and see how they like the .48 vs. the .63 or if they reccomend you go bigger for your power goals. Even better, get to know a local shop in your area, I have a feeling you will be spending good money there.

If I were you I'd figure out what the compressor specs are on that thing. It looks like a pretty beastly compressor and could probably make enough power to make your engine (if you've got a stock bottom end) it's bi***. Looks can be very deceiving though. If you've got a set of calipers, open that thing up and someone can at least tell you the trim level which might lead you to a compressor map. If you don't know how to read a compressor map, put that back on your car and start reading before you start modifying.
