newbie turbo question

ok I know this threads needs to be in the turbo section but for some reason it wont let me make a post but here's my newbie question im gonna be getting a 1992 talon tsi some of you may have read my last thread "am i gonna get ripped off (story/question)" i was wondering when i want to upgrade my turbo do i need the whole turbo kit or just the new turbo and replace it with the old one? just wondering dont flame me

The reason that you cant post in the turbo forum is because you're considred a "new member" like me. You have to be a proven member to post in other places besides the classifieds section and the newbie forum. It sounds like you need to do a lot more research on the 4g63.

If the vehicle is stock, then you have a long way to go before you need to upgrade your turbo. Go look under "Tech Guide", then go to 1G Upgrade path. That is a pretty accurate guide of how you should do your upgrades.

A lot of new guys will build cars around a BIG ASS Turbo. Almost anyone who knows what there doing will tell you that is the wrong way to go.

Build the car so that all upgrades will complement each other. Its pointless to have a 50 or 57 trim Turbo then have stupid amounts of lag because you are running low boost on a turbo that is meant to run high boost on an engine like ours. Your stock 14b is more that enough to run 20psi. Although you might be getting close to being out of its efficiency range, you should still be ok. Why do you think 2G guys upgrade to 14b's.

you just need to replace the turbo. also, you should look at the upgrade steps for these cars to get a better understanding of them.
