I might be doing a 4G64 rebuild later this winter. I read that someone used Turbo PT pistons and used it on some aftermarket rods.

Would I be able to use the PT pistons, on the stock rods on a 2G 4G64?

Does anyone know the wrist-pin size on both?

Would I need to do much or any machining?

Thanks

I know the stock PT(assuming PT crusier/srt4/cloud car2.4L here) bore is 88mm, dont have the wrist pin diameter offhand...post it when I find it at home though

actually the Pt cruiser pistons are 87.5mm

the wrist pin is the same as 2g rods and the same length.

the Pt cruiser pistons are however slightly to tall to just throw in a 2.4L, i machined mine down just for clearance saftey

my setup is 9.0:1 Pt cruiser pistons, Crower Rods and a stock 2.4L crank, standard size valves and HKS cams....

That's interesting. How much power would you think a set of PT pistons on 1G rods (Assuming you machined the rods to fit the PT pins) would take?

If you just sit back and say it out loud, it kind of sounds funny when you get to the part of your mod list.. "PT cruiser pistons"

Because they think they'll save money by going with these pistons instead of just buying a set. Let's not get into this as a hassle vs. money debate cause it'll go forever.

Actually it did save me money about $360..... so if you wanna argue that with me go ahead. Also keep in mind that i built my motor when there wasnt a 4g63/4g64 piston available.

I paid almost nothing for the pistons and i did the machine work myself. So ask yourself "why" if you had the opportunity.

One more thing to state. Weisco now offers a 4g64/4g63 piston, so does Ross. They are not listed in the catalog yet though so call them for the pistons.

How much are the PT pistons, what machine work is incurred to make them work, and are they forged? How strong are they?

i bought the pistons for a hell of a good deal. better than probably anyone anywhere could sell them new. But that was a one time thing. Anyways, i had to machine the piston tops a little bit because they are a little bit taller. i wish i could give you eact number but i built this motor over a year ago.

Actually in a true daily driver application a cast piston does have an advantage. They are cast with struts in the skirt to help hold it in the expanded position. That means they do not need to warm up to be close to their running clearance. To reduce wear with forged pistons you should warm up your car before driving.
