I am purchasing my first DSM this weekend. It is a 97 Eclipse with the 420a engine. With the purchase I am getting a 16g turbo from a gst. The problem is he isn't including the intercooler, oil cooler, oil lines, or manifold. I've heard that the t3 manifold will work with said turbo, but I wanted to be sure.

The second problem is the automatic transmission. I really would prefer to have a manual. Doing the swap shouldn't be difficult, but if I do this manual swap, I will probably have to sell the turbo to get more funds for it.

So the question lies: Automatic Turbo, or Manual N/A?

The dude is throwing you a turbo because hes trying to fill you full of shit.

Hes probably misinformed on dsms and bought a turbo and the car and thought it was plug and play, then found out he was an idiot and needed to dump another 2000$ into the motor just to make under 200 hp (SLOW) so hes going to try to dump it off on someone else. To turbo a 420a you need to build the motor or its going to pop.

You will also need bigger injectors, dsmlink or equivalent, all of the IC piping, and a TON of other shit. Aka, it will never get turbo'd.

Dont buy a non turbo car and turbo it, it is just NOT meant to be so dont force it.

I repeat... Do. Not. Buy. a. 420a. Dont.

Save a few more bucks and buy a 1g turbo awd, or 2g gst or tsi fwd. Save your money, in the end youll be happy you did.

just my 2c

I would wait. I think you'd be better off financially buying a car with the transmission you want rather than buying a car, buying a transmission, then doing the swap or paying someone to do the swap. Same principle with the turbo install, with the few lbs of boost you'd be able to safely run on the 420A, you may as well buy a DSM with the 4G63t if you want a boosted car.

Really no reason not to just get a 4g63 if you want to go fast. I mean, liability insurance between a turbo and nonturbo 2g is probably just about the same. I think when I got it back in 2006 it was like $20 every six months to have a factory turbo vs. n/t.

Anyone know different about liability?

U shouldn't put it in the turbo just like that you could blow your engine cause the 420a rods won't hold the boost there not strong enough itl blow so ud have to add in some forged rods n reinforced gasketif you wanna run a turbo in the 420a
I say u should do a manual swap insted itl be kinda difficult tho n expensive ud have to get clutch lines flywhel bunch of shit its a hassel u should just sell the auto buy a gs for under a grand with 5 speed tranny n start building it up I got my gs for 700 with 98,000 miles clean to ima do a rebuild in the summer with eagle rods and a piston kit not sure what for the piston kit but ima do it n put in a smallturbo 8psi probly or mabe a bigger one n run 15 psi
