ok i just picked up a genuine evo 3 16g it has no shaft play super tight turbo. the compressor wheel has some chipped up fins so im wanting to buy a new compressor wheel (yes i know it will need balanced after that). so here is my question im looking into the kinugawa wheel idk if its a trustworth place i dont want to be ripped off im not running the turbo very hard so i dont want the whole that wheel isnt good ordeal i dont have the coin to dish out on a mhi wheel and a balancing so i just want to know if i will get my product in a reasonable time frame as the car is my daily

What about buying a used one I believe they are component balanced so each part is balanced and will interchange. Find one that needs to be rebuilt, what a f/p they have any nice billet upgrades?:hellyeah:

You don't need to balance a new compressor wheel. I have never bought a 16g wheel alone bug an mhi20g wheel can be had for like $80 maybe cheaper if you dig around on eBay or something. I'd imagine the 16g cost similar and can't imagine the kinagawa being much cheaper than that.

Ohh to answer your main ?. I've never used a non mhi wheel bit guys seem to be using these aftermarket wheels from eBay all over and no one is complaining about problems. I will say that comparisons to genuine parts on some of these aftermarket cast wheels have shown slight variations in the aero from the original mhi piece. some of them look to be inferior, to the eye, but I've seen no evidence that they perform any differentthan the mhi wheels.

well the kinagawa is only 57$ and says its pre-balanced

so being component balanced could i just take my blown 14b and take the wheel off that and put it on my 16g and use the 14b compressor housing

i know this is kinda pointless but the car is my daily so if it can put it back on the road tomorrow while i wait on the parts to come in ill do it

It would have to be from another evo 16g, that's why I was saying maybe find one that had a cracked hotside or shaft play, just not so much the wheel hit the inside of the housing it's pretty tight in there. Another reason why I wouldn't recommend the 14b compressor wheel, unless maybe you could swap over the compressor cover too.

yes i would change the compressor cover too if i did that until i got the new 16g wheel in

You're asking if the wheel needs replaced...but I'm not seeing any photos of said damage. ;)
i didnt take pics but i know the wheel needs replaced its bad it is to the point where the taller fins are like scraped back about 1/8 inch and you can see the extra material folded back

So it has no play, but there's evidence that the wheel rubbed the cover? I'm confused.
yes LOL i believe it was rebuilt and the snap ring wasn't fully put back on and the housing fell of is how the previous owner made it sound he said the snap ring failed but the housing doesn't seem to show any serious damage no burs or serious scrapping

The exuder between a 14b and 16g are different so a 14bwheel is incompatible with a 16g bearing housing.

Well with that kind of severe ddamaged I would rebalance. The shaft may also be trash. They are pretty delicate.

You may have nothing but a good bearing housing to build a new 16g or upgrade to 20g.

dont expect too much from kinugawa. This is a just in case they send you the wrong thing. I recently had a small incident with them. They sent me the wrong compressor cover. It was a beautiful piece, but wasnt the cover that i had ordered. customer service was ok and they did attempt to make it right. By that time I had already spoken to someone else who had an incident with them, and i decided to business elsewhere. Not trying to bash. Just wanted suggest consideration of a plan just in case you do experience a wrong order.
