I don't have external wastegate yet, but there's no clearance problems at all using Tial 38mm's?

The tial BARELY fits, in fact im starting to get a little rub on it now. But it isnt so noticeable, take a look.

Thanks.

I finally talked to Mike at streetsource. He said if I send the mani back he will true it up for me. As much as I love having it run the leaks are really annoying and probably killing more power than I realize.

I was able to get most of the new manifold installed last night and today. While taking off the HAHN manifold I stripped the thread of the lower driverside bolt. I cannot stress using never seize on all your bolts. Whenever you take a bolt out put never seize on it before you put it back in. So I tapped it with a 3/8's tap. Also when you drill and tap a bolt on your engine, put greese on the drill bit and on the tap, 99% of the shavings will stick to the grease and will come out with the drill bit and tap. The new manifold from streetsource is much easier to install then the one from HAHN. The HAHN bolts are to close to the runners so it is a pain in the ass to get the socket on the top bolts of the manifold. The new manifold gives perfect room to get a 1/4 inch socket with extension. I tightened the exhaust manifold bolts to 17 ft lbs (204 inch pounds), is this what everyone tightens theres down to? Here are the pictures from the install so far. Tomorrow the car is being towed to the exhaust shop to have the downpipe extended and the wastegate connected to the downpipe. I also cracked the weld for the return line fitting on the oil pan, so i will have to drop the pan and have it re-tig welded. I was not expecting that to happen, but like all things with the car once something is fixed its time for something else to break.

Tell me about it, everytime I think I have it 100% I notice my oil drain line just folded in half or something. Which was last night, of course I wouldnt have noticed if I hadnt thrown my power steering belt on the drive home. Of my three vehicles I try to keep at least 2 running at all times, key work being TRY.

Does anyone know where I can get a good metal or copper gasket to connect the turbo to the downpipe? I keep going through gaskets like crazy.

hmm...what's the discharge look like on that?

So I got it all bolted up and it is leaking from the passenger side of the manifold. I have tightened it several times and it is still leaking, not as bad as at first. I first tired using the Hahn 3 layer gasket, and it leaked bad, then I used the felpro gasket and it still leaked but not as bad. I am going to try the stock exhaust manifold gasket from mitsubishi tommorow has anyone else had this problem??

Yes mine leaked like a banshee with the copper gasket and a little less with the stock multi-layer job. If you take it back off put a straight edge on it, mine has a fierce bow in it that is going to have to be machined down.
Mike from Streetsource said they do that on purpose cause it will seal up better, which didnt make a ton of sense to me. He said to retorque the hell out of the outer bolts and it will draw up and seal perfect, which wasnt the case with mine so its going back for some TLC.
You can always put some exhaust super high temp formagasket on it, and it will sound great for about 2 minutes or operating temp whichever comes first.

Finally got it to seal up. I used the stock multi layer gasket from the dealership and I put copper rtv silicone on both the manifold and the head. Then i hand tightened each bolt then i did a half turn starting with the bottom 2 middle bolts, then the top 4, then the 2 outer bolts on the bottom. I kept doing this pattern until they were all tight. Then i let the car sit for 24 hours. The copper rtv silicone needs 24 hours to fully cure in 70 degree weather. No leaks at all. The silicone is 700 degree heat resistant, vibration resistant, and resists all mechanical fluids. Really great stuff just need to give it 24 hours to setup.

I used the same stuff, it didnt last a week (the operatiing temp or 2 min crack was a bit on the cynical side). But hopefully yours isnt warped quite as bad as mine.

I let it sit for two days, I thought that would be best since ohio is the frozen heart of it all.

umm...frozen heart of it all ?

Ohio's corny state slogan is "the heart of it all". Though we typically have all 4 seasons in a day here, but lately we get a couple 50 degree days and then a 20 degree day, then 50 and 60 , then 30. My nipples have been hard for 6 months.

I digress - my manifold is coming off tonight, with the 4 inches of snow we got this morning I dont see any hope of driving it soon. Street source said they could turn it around in a day so hopefully I will have it back together in time for the next warm day.

...you should look at other members' info before you complain about your weather ;)

:notgood:

Just got my manifold back from the street source.

Old Mike Hart completely SCREWED me. He had it for a week, after he said it would take 1 day to turn around!
The header flange that had a massive bow in it now has two big humps and a low spot, it will never seal up.
The turbo flange that had a huge dip in the middle, he did NOTHING to. well I shouldnt say he did nothing, he painted it so I couldnt tell he did nothing to it. Except that he didnt even bother to scuff off the gasket imprint so I knew instantly he screwed me.
The wastegate flange that looks like a smily face from the side still looks like a smily face.
Oh and did I mention that one of the studs on the Turbo flange is bent so bad that its almost broke off?
He cant tell me that was done in shipping because I drilled 4 holes in a 2x4 and stuck it on so none of them would get hurt.

Screw him and street source right in the ear!

Now I have to take it to a real machinist and loose yet another week.

Old Mike Hart completely SCREWED me...

All I can say is that you must've pissed him off or something... I've never heard of anyone ever having anything bad to say about Mike Hart - including me, a customer of his. When I had problems with my manifold, he took care of it right away and was very gracious about it too.

As I mentioned, I'm not just basing this claim on my own experiences, everyone that I know who has dealt with him has similar comments.

It's not that I don't believe you, but your encounters with him just don't sound typical of Mike at all.

I must have because up to this point he has been great about everything. His reply to my scathing email was that he didnt actually see it and assumed his guys did it correctly. He also fed me a line of crap about how they couldnt even attempt to grind down the turbo flange because the studs were welded in.
Seems like they were the guys that welded them in, so they damn sure could have taken them out and put in new ones.

So shame on his guys for being worthless and shame on him for not checking their work. Now I have to cut off the bent stud and tap in a new one plus get the whole thing planed down. Lesson learned, no more dealings with street source for me.

I hate to hear that dude. I got my setup from Mike, and he was great about answering my questions, plus I love the kit. It was a fairly easy install, and it survived me rear-ending somebody!

Maybe one of his guys really did f' up.

@redeclipse: Side note, but I just ordered those same headlights. Nice to see they look frickin sweet!
