Ok so I believe I have faithfully searched the forums for sometime now, seeing everyones different turbo setups and I've finally saved enough money to make my own (about 1,500). My question: does this turbo kit contain all the neccesary parts needed to go turbo. Im not saying im going to buy this kit just using it as a reference for all the parts im going to buy.

Im going to use a K04 turbo from a jetta 1.8t and make a custom flange for it. Its a small turbo and spools fairly quickly. Im only looking for 8-11psi so Im unsure if upgrading the stock fuel system is necessary. All input is welcomed.

DODGE 95 96 97 98 99 NEON 420A DOHC T3/T4 TURBO KIT - eBay (item 280588185614 end time Jan-10-11 15:50:56 PST)

Yeah that looks like about everything. Are you planning on running Megasquirt?

I was told i wouldnt need Megasquirt if i had the wastegate springs and didnt exceed 11psi. Is this info wrong?

I wouldn't run it past 8psi if you want the motor to last a while. Still need a FMU or SFMU and a bigger fuel pump. I would ditch the wastegate and BOV from that kit too.

1G BOVs are cheap and great BOV. As for WGs, I wouldn't anything less than name brand since that is what will be controlling your boost.

OK thanks for the input. Also if i upgrade fuel pumps will it kill that annoying buzz that comes with stock. WHat FMU do you recommend.

as far as fuel pumps go, I have a walbro 255 which is supposed to be really loud, but I can't hear it all over my engine, not even with the windows shut. then again, I have a 4g63 with a thermal exhaust so its probably a bit louder than a 420a. honestly for that setup you could probably just use an evo 8/9 fuel pump. they're cheap as dirt (30-50$ depending on how lucky you are) and it should be a drop in fuel pump since you have a 2g. as far as that kit goes, you might try piecing it together yourself, it may be cheaper, and you can just use a 14b or t25, so no external wastegate, and its guaranteed to be quality as opposed to an ebay turbo

This is incorrect. Please review our rules:
Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice is often worse than no advice.

OP, if you're going to use an FMU, you need a Walbro 255lph HP fuel pump -- notice the "HP", a regular 255lph won't do. I recommend a Vortech 12:1 FMU. There are other companies that make similar FMU's now, but you will need one with a 12:1 ratio.

I'd recommend looking for a good, used Garrett T3 turbocharger. They're relatively cheap, but high quality. I love MHI turbo's as much as the next guy, but all of the easily available manifolds for the 420A use a T3 flange.

eBay wastegates and BOV's aren't horrible. I've been running a TiAL knock-off for 2 years now with no boost creep and a RS wanna be BOV with no compressor surge. Outside of an occasional rip in the inner membrane of the WG and inherently junk turbos, most of the time, eBay part failure can be attributed to user error during installation.

OP: The whine you refer to is usually only the case in cars with an upgraded fuel pump... Before I turbo'd my car, I never heard the fuel pump. If you bought the car used, you may want to check if the previous owner installed an HP walbro. Also, boost Psi ratings mean diddly. I've been running 9psi on a stock block and stock fuel injectors with no problems. I also regularly comp. test my car with only an 8psi loss in each cylinder over a 2 year span. Just remember Turbo A add X amount of HP at N amount of boost.

The main reason you try to stay under 8psi of boost is because the extra 96 lbs of fuel pressure your 12:1 fmu adds is known to overload and shut down our injectors, causing worse problems such as detonation from running super lean. All together, at 8psi above ambient, you're maxing out a stock fuel system with 156psi of fuel pressure. If you want to avoid this headache, save another $800 and get bigger injectors, a 1:1 Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, and MS. With these components you can actually max out around 300hp on a stock block, with a proper tune, depending on your choice of turbo. With this setup and 13psi of boost, your fuel system will never see any pressures higher than 68psi.

Thanks you guys. So i need to add a 12 to 1 FMU. Im going to run stock injectors. I have no desire to boost past about 11 psi. I really appreciate how you guys always respond in a super timely fashion.

My computer just uploaded the end of LD25's post. Well i wont boost past 8 psi LOL. Im going to run a Garrett GT2554r if i cant make the flange for my K04 jetta turbo. Im using that one because its one i have readily available.

I'm not sure I understand your last post...You have 2 turbos? Or you have a housing and one turbo? You should expand on this in a new thread, like what it is that you plan on doing with your jetta turbo.

Im going to create a flange that accomadate to my t3/t4 manifold that i have now because the jetta turbo isn't t3/t4 shaped. If creating a flange proves to be too difficult then i will purchase a GT2554r because theres one posted on CL in my area.

Get the garrett. It will be easier to install and will likely have similar spool characteristics. I can't tell you for sure without comparing compressor maps, though.
