Ok, I just picked this turbo up and it was described as an AGP L1R .50 trim. I can't seem to find much info on this turbo online (couple of reviews on talk and here on tuners, couple of time slips and thats it). Since I have no pictures to compare it to I'm not entirely sure if it really is an AGP turbo or another (e-bay or the like) model.

Anyhow here are the pics (sorry for the bad quality took them on my phone):

It almost looks like the SBR turbo's, like the g50 and g60's they sold. Those ones were made by Kinetic Motorsports. Maybe something to look into more, is there any more castings or numbers on the compressor cover?

Never heard of kinetic motorsports... hopefully if it is one of those turbos they aren't bad.

On the backside of the housing there is this:

It's a Garrett-based 50-trim, that's all you'll need to know. ;p

Looks like a PTE-style "E" compressor cover, and a machined Mitsu turbine housing which hasn't been done on a Garrett since the early 2000's. I've seen older SBR G turbos use this turbine housing (not the junk made by Kinetic), and the old "Mutt" turbos from that era as well.

Regardless, that's definitely a Garrett compressor wheel and a Garrett T31 turbine, so like I said above it's a Garrett 50-trim no matter who originally made it fit a Mitsu turbine housing.

But awesome info! Glad it's not a POS knockoff :) So, with that said how is this type of turbo? How does it compare to say the Evo III 16G? (Flow, HP potential, etc...).

Once I get this sent off to you for a rebuild it's going onto my MightyMax swap, and the MHI Evo III 16G is going on the Laser. Looking for ~350whp out of the mightymax 4G swap (stock rebuilt internals, 272 cams, mild head work / upgraded springs etc...), if it can meet / exceed those goals and provide me with decent street / strip mannerisms I'll keep it. :)

I don't think you understand....

all Garrett-based 50-trims are essentially the same.

No, I got it. But with minor differences, like with this turbo ("and a machined Mitsu turbine housing which hasn't been done on a Garrett since the early 2000's"), which I would assume effect the overall numbers (flow, etc...) compared to say the FP green or other 50 trims (which would have better numbers utilizing newer technology 50 trims)

So, I was comparing it to the old SBR turbos since that would be the one closest to mine in overall configuration, correct?

The FP Green is on a different playing field than any true Garrett 50-trim because of the MHI turbine and center housing. I'd say being that yours has a machined MHI turbine housing and the T31 is "close" to a TD06 turbine in spec, yours may perform similar....but being that your type of turbo hasn't seen production in many years, there aren't many people out there to gain real-world results from.

Right on. Kind of what I figured, looks like I'll have to slap it on get it dialed in and see what numbers I can get out of it (which looks like getting ~350whp out of a 50 trim is well within reason so onto the Mighty Max swap it goes).

I should probably just be best to be happy it's not a chinabay turbo and it isn't junk :)

At any rate, it needs it's rebuild so off to you it goes for that once I get your info so I can ship it off haha.

Thanks again for the help / info!
