Delta,
Just curious looking at cold air intakes and notice they only sell kits for n/a models. Is there a reason why turbos and cold air kits do not go together. is there any way to go around this.

Dave

colder air going into the turbo would be a good thing - however I think the primary reason you don't see it is because of the longer piping required to do CAI. Longer pipes=more turbo lag, and that's not something most people want.

Its not totally useless. Many people argue the point in making the air cooler before the turbo. Logging the air temps, which is monitored before the turbo in the normal mass setup, you will notice that the temps can get as high as 130F OMG That is high than compress the 130F air and get another 250-300F added to that. Yeah sure the intercooler will cool that down like 150F but you still have hot air. Now if you can bring in cool air into the Mass, your ECU will treat your engine better and will give your engine bonuses. One fact about the ECU is that for air temps above 84F and below 34F you will lose 1 degree of timing. Maybe not much but Its something more than having 100 or more degrees of intake temps and losing 1 degree of timing before the turbo even puts the intake air to use. The air your engine sucks up is the same hot air your engine produces (If you upgraded your intake to K&N) In the normal STOCK form, the air it sucks up (Though restrictive) is from above the wheel well....AWAY from the engine bay.
Its not much but I did research this a bit and even created a way to get cooler air much like a cold air intake. To this day I get 80F or less in intake temps CONSISTANTLY with the lowest logged being 69F when I go WOT. I'm not going to say that I have never seen 100F on the logger but what I can say is that even with 100F at the light, when I start moving, after a minute or two my temps drop. IN WOT they seem to drop the most since the intake is being sucked in larger amounts. Combine this with a FMIC and you will truly benefit. Especially in those summer months. Any way To answer your question Davecameron77, yes theres a way to go around this. I have and wrote up how I did it and took plenti of pics to show you my design.
