Looked but didn't see a whole lot on this. So here it goes. Is there anything I can soak the turbine (exhaust) housing in to clean out caked on exhaust stuff. Got a used turbo that I'd like to really deep clean before I paint or powder coat. I read that you can use WD-40 to wipe the compressor housing down to clean it. Or polish it as well. I don't expect for that side of the turbo to be too dirty. Also, is there anything you can soak the chra in to clean out coked oil on the inside? Or anything to spray into it? Any input is welcome.
Thanks!

If you unbolt the compressor housings and can clean it with anything like a solvent WD40/Seafoam bath/Mineral Spirits soak/cleaning maybe? But make sure the 02 sensor is out and you may be able to sand off that coking and do a small port job/dremel sand off the coking on the 02 housing side to get a couple HP and exhaust flow. I wouldnt submerge it with oil/water lines and bushings/bearings idk about what to use on internals(Center guts/turbine wheels?) I would just use good oil when bolted up.

I'll have to try that. Thanks. There has to be something that I can run through the chra to clean out all the junk without damaging any of the internals. I don't plan on using the water coolant part of it but would like to get out all the old oil residue. I run synthetic in my bike. Supposed to have a higher breakdown temp so it would be great for a turbo to help prevent coking.

Cool! Thanks! I was thinking about that as well. Might just do that as well.

Brake clean or mineral spirits. Then use some royal purple spray lube that they have. Works super good on the bearings and makes the turbo spool alittle better! It has a coating it leaves on and really works great! I've sprayed it in all my turbos and i soak the bearings and shaft in it before rebuilds. Has given me great results!

Ya let me find the vid of them showing how the spray coats and protects a bearing in load. They even take the oil away and still run it. That's what sold me!! It's called maxfilm. And here's a video not the one I saw originally but it's the same concept and test :)

I always knew royal purple was good stuff! I'd like to see comparisons on royal purple 5w30, 10w30, 10w40 + Since we should be running 10w40ish!
I've never used Amsoil.

I didn't watch the video but I can tell you that machine is a scam and can be manipulated to skew results. Look up the "one arm bandit test" by amsoil on YouTube.

^ I don't see how, it's not rocket science! It's a very simple test make a bearing spin and add load. Then add more and more load and see what happens! I've seen multiple test done by multiple people and the results are always about the same! I would suspect Amsoil to say the test is bunk since there the ones being tested against LOL! But I'll do some more research. But so far I havnt come by anything else that works this great!! I have 2-3 bottles at the shop always and we use it for everything. I even spray it in my impact guns and they seem to work really good now and require less oiling, from what I've experienced! ;) I like Amsoil and royal puprle they both are great companies. And are really brining us great products helping push our cars farther and farther and we'll just helping make life easier!!

I did notice, when he's testing the amsoil, he's tossing the weights on instead of lightly putting them on like the royal purple. I know this clip was intended to sell royal purple!

Your right its not rocket science, its simple science.

Ive guessing you didnt bother looking at the video i said. They explain it all. even using their oil to make the test fail. It is not a bias test. It basiccaly says when pushing down slowly you allow heat to build up thus activating the heat friction modifiers . If you load the bearing fast without building heat the oil doest have time to react.

I don't know havnt tried looking for it yet sorry. Well then sounds like we need the test done equally the same for all the oils to really see the diff. But anyway besides the test I have first hand experience with the maxfilm. And all I can say is im sold and will always have a can at the shop to use!! And I actually don't use either of there oils LOL I'm a valvoline vr1 20/50 man!!
