hey guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this one. It doesn't have to do with performance, but cleaning up a performance part. Any who, I'm getting ready to swap turbos on my Talon, and would like to clean up the 14b that's going on. It's a fairly new turbo but came out of a pretty nasty car. I also managed to get it pretty dirty/oily while I was trying to get it out. I had started to clean it with engine degreaser, but there are so many little crevices, and some are hard to get to. I was wondering if I could use a power washer on it. I didn't know if moisture and water getting into the housings would cause any problems. I wasn't wanting to put a nasty, greasy looking turbo on my car. I try to keep my car fairly clean and the engine bay is the same way. Thank you for your help, and sorry for the retarded question.

.... I tried searching, but it didn't help.

I was searching for an answer on this awhile back as well and came up with nothing. I too would like to know. I was afraid to put anything in it that would hurt the bearings or seals in it.

Are you referring to the inside or the outside of the turbo? You could just use like carb cleaner if its on the outside, I don't know about the internals...I had a bearing go out in my 300mile turbo and wanted to clean it out...I ended up just getting it fully rebuild for $200.

Wipe down the compressor side with a WD-40 moistened rag. Or, hose it down with a can or two of carb cleaner, on the outside only. The exhaust housing will pretty much clean itself, seemingly by magic.

You'll be wanting to keep it under a heat shield, anyway.
