Turbo 1.8

Is it possible to turbo a 1.8L without extreme amounts of money and work?
A kid on a local forum I'm on wants to turbo his, and I told him he's an idiot and would spend more money building a working setup with tuning etc. than it would be to just buy a turboed car.
Do they even make performance parts for the 1.8?

Well, its not THAT hard.

It will require a good bit of custom work though. Custom exhaust manifold, exhaust, custom IC and pipes. You'll need to feed oil and possibly coolant to the turbo somehow, and of course, the fuel to compensate for the added power.

If hes looking to make a lot of power. the 1.8 platform is not the way to go..Try convincing your friend into spending the money on a factory turboed dsm. It will honestly probably be cheaper just to buy a turbo dsm, or swap a 2.0 n/a in.

+1000 with the above tell him to buy a 4g63t and drop convert the car over. But I would really look to sell the car and get a GST or GSX.

While it is easier to sell and buy a GST/X... it would be a fun little project to turbo the 4g37... It is a pretty stout little motor.

There's a guy on the boards right now working on a turbo 1.8 project check it out look at the time and money he's putting in this thing (not to mention he obviously has some experience) tell your friend to just enjoy the good gas mileage, and buy a turbo model later on down the road when hes got the money.
