Is setting the old style SAFC the same as the newer style? Basically what I am asking is can I use the tuning diagrams for newer SAFC for the this one as well? Is there a link to the install/tuning for the 5-knob? I plan on installing it tonight. Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

Even with my 255HP walbro I am still getting about 17-18 counts of knock at WOT in third. It tapers off to about 15 counts at 6500rpm and timing is 12. Strange thing is my O2 sensor (Denso) only reads .82 beginning at about 4700 rpm in third and tapers off to .80 at about 6500rpm. Shouldnt I be seeing about .90 or .96?? It seems I still leaning out even with the upgraded pump. This was running about 15 psi on 93 pump...any help is greatly appreciated.

Just got done installing it...was much easier than I thought. Anyhow at idle my O2 trim was in the high 40's low 50's. I leaned out the 800 rpm setting to about -4 to bring it as close to 100% as possible. I waited a few minutes for the low trim to catch up...got it to hover between 98-101. I then held the rpms at 2400-2500 and adjusted the 2400rpm setting on the SAFC to -6. I am guessing for 4000, 5600 and 7200 I need to drive the car to set it correct? My settings are as follows:

800 = -4
2400 = -6
4000= +6
5600= +6
7200= +6

Do you guys think these settings are okay to start with? Did I set the 800 and 2400 rpm settings correctly? Thanks for any and all help.

TT

Anyone?? I could certainly use the help. I tried tuning it yesterday but am still getting knock and I hit fuel cut a few times. I just need to know a good method on adjusting this old style SAFC.

I am gonna try and take it to the track on Wed so I'd like to have a decent baseline set.

I don't see any fuel injector upgrade in your mod list. If that's true, you may have knock problems at 15psi no matter what settings you use with that EVO 16g. With 550's and 15psi, you'd probably be around -10 or -15 or so.

If you have any other decent breathing mods at all, 450s are very iffy with a 16g at 15psi on pump gas.

I'm with Deus on the injector thing... Also you may want to consider an AFPR, I'm sure the stock one is being overrun by that 255. It's nearly impossible to accurately tune a non-linear fuel curve. Good luck.

Yup, still have the stock injectors and regulator. I will getting an AFPR probly an OBX or B&M soon. Injectors will come next probly 660's. I am taking it to the track today and plan on running about 16-17psi on pump and 18-19psi (if I can get away from fuel cut) on race gas. We'll see what happens.

deusxmachina, when you said -10 or -15 did you mean the fuel settings on the afc?

Thanks again for the replies.

The B&M is a fuel pressure modifer and will ONLY raise your base fuel pressure. Stick with OBX or Weapon R for a cheap AFPR that needs installation work, pick up the TurboXS from Buschur for a fully bolt-on piece. I honestly wouldn't try to run that much boost without being able to tune the car properly, those are around the limits of a "well tuned" 14b set-up with the correct supporting mods.

Yeah. 450s can hold decent on race gas, but pump gas can run them pretty ragged. People just know how to make too much power nowadays to not run big injectors.
