So I have been trying to mess with my new DSMLink V3 and made a lot of WOT pulls to try and tune knock out. Not sure if I should keep doing this or start messing with AFR? What was the first things you guys started to mess with when you had the DSMLink program on your computer screen?

First you should make sure all the basics have been covered. Im assuming your injector compensation, deadtime, and fuel trims are in-line. How much boost are you running and how much knock are you getting? You want to get rid of knock first and foremost but adjusting fuel goes hand in hand with that. You could be running lean and getting knock, or be running rich and getting knock. You should get on the link forums and check out the demos. They are extremely helpful and look through the entire ecmlink wiki.

I have not touched the injector compensation, deadtime, and fuel trims sence ive installed the program. But watched most of the tutorials on the ECMLink website and have actually performed/tried to get rid of knock. I was at 12 lbs of boost and had all of the knock tuned out of 1st and 2nd gear at WOT. But on occations it would still knock, only up to 1.5 degrees though. My AFR Est. was around 9.5:1 during WOT. Other things I have done is mess with the TPS and it is set to 0% at idle now like it's supposed to be.

typically you want to take out the knock from 3rd gear WOT pulls, not really 1st and 2nd and i usually do a stock map, log it see if you are getting knock then adjust it from there, and AFR is usually the first thing to do

I'd try to get the AFR in line first. If you're getting a lot of knock, pull a few degrees of timing before you even start. You can always add it back in later.

Once you get your AFR inline, then try advancing the timing until you start getting knock, then back it off some again.

You may want to check your base timing if your car seems particularly knock happy, just to make sure it isn't adding in any extra.

Why not 1st and 2nd? Could you please explain that? Also, do you think I should reset my TimingMaxOct table to stock and then start with AFR first? I believe the reason I was getting knock was because I was set at 15lbs of boost with stock injectors and stock turbo. So I turned the boost down and left the timing that I changed the same and have yet to do a WOT pull.

3rd gear is prefered because it is usually a 1:1 gear ratio and it gives the motor a proper load. The taller the gear the longer you are in it, the more heat is generated and gets the best results. What size injectors are you running? You won't be able to correctly get your AFR's dial in until you get your injectors properly compensated for. Reading the ECMLink tutorials and everything is good, but if you don't have much experience with it I would highly recommend a proffesional to tune it.

Oh ok that makes sence. So tuning the knock out of 3rd gear should eliminate it all out of 1st and 2nd aswell? I am on stock injectors, didn't want to upgrade untill I get used to the program. Professionals start somehwere, right? I really enjoy doing all my own work. Plus I really don't have the money to pay for someone else to do something I would love to learn about.

If you are on stock injectors then the only thing you will really be doing is some leaning out. But yes doing it in 3rd will eliminate any problems in 1st and 2nd.
