I just installed the Scanmaster from Full throttle and have found that my sidemount must be functioning poorly, not that it is probably very good anyways! I am running 14 PSI and even with an A/F of 10:1 I have knock under WOT. The sidemount must be the culprit. I know how to clean it but I have not run across anyone following up with postive results. Is this sidemount so bad that a few blasts at WOT cause it to heatsoak?
Has anyone removed th plastic cver in the wheelwell and replaced it with screening with say 1/4" holes? That should help the air flow thru quicker. Besides a frontmount what else can be done. Actually what I would like to know if anyone has gotten positive results as shown on a logger. thanks, Mark

Cleaning can definatly help depending on how bad it is. When I cleaned my stock sidemount before going to the Extreme FMIC, I had what seemed like 1/2 qt of oil sitting in the bottom of it, it literally poured out. And no I hadn't blown the turbo or anything, but 135k miles of sucking valve cover fumes accumulates. Took me 3 tries to get clean cleaner flowing through it.

That's encouraging! Man have you run in the 10's with your '90!!?? You don't drive it on the street do you? The nxt thinh I need is a good frontmount that fits without cutting. Anyone have one they can recommend? When I clean the IIV this weekend I will reply with the results. mark

Almost nothing came out of my SMIC when I cleaned it compared to what most people say they find. Yet the cleaning (and fog light removal) showed as a good temp drop on the scanner, clean that puppy.

How long does it ususally to R&R and clean it as I need it at 5pm today but am anxious to get it done. I know my motor will take 18 psi but blowing hot air does no good!! Mark

It is fun to cut bumpers to shreds to get the intercooler to fit!! :thumb:

Yeah, funny computer work. Now how about some frontmount options? Cleaning did nothing and it was quite clean anyways. I can't boost o 14 PSI and a 10:1 A/F without knock, that's not funny! Mark

Id shoot for an 11:1 on pump gas. Try hitting that. Let us know if that works better.

Why do you think a leaner A/F would possibly have less knock than a 10:1? Mark

A leaner AFR will NOT knock less than a richer AFR. 10:1 is not rich enough to cause "rich knock" unless you really are way richer than that.

I've said it to you about 395456 times already, your ignition timing might not be correct, and the extra timing advance could be causing knock. One step at a time!

Kyle I did not suggest running leaner. My wideband does only go to as rich as 10:1 when it goes richer it just reads rich. As I stated I am going to check the timing, I just need to mark the notch as I cannot see it with the light. mark

Kyle was correct! Someone had the timing WAY OFF! There are the letters BTDC-before top dead center-well they had it timed to a mark to the left of the letters which was at least 15 degrees too far advanced. I timed it correctly and 14 psi, no knock.I willraise the boost 1 psi at a time and get to as much as I can with 15 degrees of advance. THANKS Kyle! And you did not tell me to check the timing even once over 250,000 times. LOL
Gosh it's nice to have something go right! Mark
