Tubular o2 housing?

I have seen a couple people selling their tubular o2 housing with dump , what is the benifit of this? And does it effect the noise of the turbo at all?

the dump doesn't effect the sound of the turbo but it makes a huge sound difference when you let off the gas quickly, all the excess turbo pressure "dumps" out the port...definitely gonna attract attention... as far as performance wise, I'm not sure what the advantages are besides reliving tension on your turbo and possibly increasing longevity..



I have since been corrected about when the gas actually dumps, my apoligies for any misdirection...I bow before the DSM gods...

A tubular O2 housing greatly increases flow out of the turbo and into the exhaust. Tubular O2 housings with dump tubes are used to help eliminate boost creep, and help relieve exhaust gas pressure even more. O2 housings with external dump tubes are considerably louder than a closed o2 housing. It is like having no exhaust after the turbo when you let off the gas, or for that matter, any time the wastegate is open.




A good question to ask would be what people who have them think of them.

Tubular O2 housing just increase flow from the turbo. Better flow equals more power. As far as the dump is concerned you won't hear it when you let off of the gas you will hear it when the wastegate open's up. At least mine doesn't open when I let off of the gas. All of the exhaust gases will be dumped into the atmosphere instead of the exhaust. If you get one make sure it has a long o2 dump so you aren't dumping exhaust gases back into the engine compartment and heatsoaking everything.

i had one on my car, but i just went back to a ported 02 housing, got tired of the noise.

wouldn't you hear the dump every time you hit your desired boost setting because the wastegate would open to not let you boost higher then you have your boostcontroller set for??

yes, it makes a loud hissing sound, like a car with a hole in the muffler.

Yes a tubular o2 housing does effect the turbo. it allows the gas to exit faster and therfore quicker spool up. The faster you get the gasses out the quicker spool up will be. I have a tubular o2 housing but the wastgate tube goes back into the o2 section and ghoes thru out the exhaust system.

There's some confusion in this thread.

The tubular o2 housing does not make a noise when you let off the gas, that would be your blow off valve.

The tubular o2 has a larger tube on it then the stock o2 housing does, therefor it will help spool up, the dump really doesnt do anything but make a lot of noise when your at full boost.

No. Not significant. Your ported o2 should be nearly the same size as a 2.5" tubular.
