tubular manifold question

How does a tubular manifold increase horse power? It would seem to me that the longer runners would make spool time increase.
 
The Manifold doesn't directly increase horsepower, its the way it delivers the exhaust to the turbo that increases horsepower. The design of the runners is to all merge in one spot at the exact same time to deliver a concentrated shot to the turbo.

If you look at stock manifolds, the runner size are all different lenghts. So your not getting continued flow. Also a stock Manifold has the exhaust coming from the sides instead of the top. Picture the exhaust meeting in the middle and smashing into itself, It creates alot of turbulance and not a very directed flow. Look at a tubular manifold, the runners are pointing downward directly facing the turbine. That will create a better throttle response and faster spool-up which will inprove spool-up time and 1/4 mile times and speeds.
 
thanks, i just figured since the air had more distance to travel and more space to fill that it would make spool up time less.
 
Paperclip has a point, but the point made actually only is effective when trying to spool larger turbos. The stock manifold works best with t28 and works very well up to the big16g evo III.
 
A stock manifold ported should be all you need. The tubular lets more air flow through the mani which would help spool time. Tubulars are mainly for drag cars since they tend to crack I would not use one for a daily driver. My buddy goes and rewelds all the welds on a tubular, so it will last longer.
 
You can also get them treated to prevent cracks. Artist is right though. Although a tubular is a nice peice to add to the engine bay, it is not necessary for anything between a T-25 to a EVO III 16G. I still know many people running 20G's and 50 Trims with a 2G ported manifold, they work fine. I also see alot of people using the SBR Cast Manifold.

Personnally after my 2.3 build next winter, I will be buying a Tubular manifold, because I wll be going with the AGP RS60T. So the Tubular manifold's benefits will be seen there, because it is a much larger turbo.

the stock 2g mani will support around 600hp
so its fine way over and beyond a 16g-
 
While this is all true what everyone is forgetting is most tubulars outflow cast manifolds. that's the main reason that spool is better with a tubular. better smoother faster flow = more flow.:thumb:
 
I think you guys are idiots. A stock, cast exhaust manifold will yield better spool. Exhaust pressure is needed to spool a turbo, which is going to take longer to pressurize, a small cast mani, or a mani with wider and longer runners. How the hell do you just think, "oh, duh, the tubular one looks nice and is smooth so it flows bettar, duh... this must spool tarbo faster!" The poster was correct in the beginning, but everyone had to jump in with stupid bullshit and misinformation and useless suggestions.

First off he started the thread to hear what everyone else had to say and he got what he wanted. Second you have no idea what your talkin about and it's so obvious cause even the people that talk trash on the the tubulars cause they are prone to crackin know that they spool faster than cast while it may not be super noticable in some cases in other cases it has been proven to spool 200 maybe even 300 rpms faster. You need to do some back to back runs with an actual tubular before you make statements like that.

You tellin me to go look at some tech article when I have PERSONALY run both a cast and a tubular on my car with 2 diffrent turbos is stupid. You think because i registered with tuners not even a year ago that you know more than me ROFL . I have more post and more importantly more useful post then you have in the 4 years or w/e you have been on tuners.

You don't know the answer it's obvious cause you don't have any real life experience. If you did you would have said so by now. Unless you have something to say along the lines of "When I ran xxx turbo with this manifold it hit full boost here or flowed xlbs/min as aposed to y turbo that hit full boost here and flowed x/lbs/min" you should just :shhh:
 
I don't really understand what you are saying- you don't make any sense. Point being you can tell me that you installed a stereo system in your car, and gained 10whp, but that doesn't mean anything. You are still wrong and need to learn how things work before you try and say something is better just because its smoother faster and better... I am done now, hopefully the others will look over your posts and read what is true.
 
I ran a tubular with my stock 14b and it spooled slightly better i mean nothing to run tell homme about as the 14b spools fast to begin with but when I stepped up to a PTE 50 trim I was first cast because I sold my old tubular with my 14b setup to get the 50 trim. Spooled to full boost around 4k maybe even a little slower do to restictive 1g mas. I then picked up another tubular cause i needed better spool cause this is my dd. Spool dropped to 3800rpms full boost and just felt faster throughout the entire power band. WHile I have no dyno proof my logger was showing around 2-3lbs/min more(roughly 20-30 hp). My setup that is being finished now has a tubular and a gt14 from sbr going for 500whp. I will keep everyone posted how spool is with this setup.

How things work please man what have you done that you can come on here talkin like a wiseman? I gave real life experience and proof to support my comment unlike you who just posted some link:rolleyes: . I think you need to learn how things work before you post any more for tonight. I will let it go as your probably just tired and delusional:shhh:
 
Scrymerr first of all you are an idoit... Tubular manifolds will cause turbos to spool faster. Look at anyones car in the racing industry EVERYONE uses tubular style manifolds. Im pretty sure they would use what is best inorder to go faster right? So obviously if cast manifolds were easier to "presureize" don't you think they would use them? AMS motorsports sells 98% of their turbo kits with a tubular manifold and if im not mistaken they have the worlds fastest evo and the evo that produces the most horsepower and guess what? They both use a tubular manifold!!!! Shep ran a 7.6 and oh my god hes using a tubular style manifold too!!!! I run one on my car for 2 reasons I use a T3 style turbo which you cannot bolt to the stock cast manifold and second it provides a nice smooth flowing path into my turbo :)

Once again don't post bad information if you don't have a clue what you are talking about
 
Oh by the way the web site you so kindly posted mentions nothing about tubular manifold effecting turbo spool. If anything it supports mine and Slippi's arguments.

Thanx for pointing that out I wasn't even gonna clikc the link he posted cause I have real life experience and don't need some random internet site to tell me what's what ;)
 
All of your arguments are pointless. The DESIGN of the manifold is what affects overall power and spoolup. There are a few variables to take into consideration: runner diameter, runner length, collector design, bends, material (SS, Ti, cast iron, etc.). So just saying that a tubular manifold will increase or decrease spool time or horsepower is not accurate. There are hundreds of tubular manifold threads, we don't really need another one.

You guys need to go back and edit or delete your previous counterproductive posts and childish name calling before someone gives you both a balck eye.

If you are unwilling to follow the rules of decency when addressing members then walk away for nothng will ruin a thread faster that a couple of twits having a slug fest at the expense of others.

There I went back and took out all the cursing and name callin cause the facts make this guy look like he doesn't know what he's talkin about by themselfs. I apoligize to the original poster for my distracting comments and hope he picks the useful stuff out of my post like the fact that I have real life experience and as long as you tubular is well braced and is not exposed to water which will cause instant change in temp and cause crackin Tubulars are the way to go:thumb:

Your statement is true in theory but lets be realistic. I can tell you that even my XS power tubular outperformed a ported 2g manifold and that's SUPOSEDLY the worst tubular around. You do the math;)
