Tubular Manifold Question

To those with tubular manifolds, did you notice a increase in under the hood temps? Because when I installed mine and took it out for a 5 minute test drive and came back, the heat generated by the tubular manifold was extreme, and my carbon fiber hood was extremely hot also. So I was just wondering if anybody else was experiancing this and if they ran into any other problems like melting stuff? Note that I had my manifold ceramic coated and it still hot.....

The tubular manifolds stand higher than the oem EVO/1G/2G manifold. Along with standing higher, they allow for more/better flow over the stock counterparts. Think about how hot the gases flowing through it are getting and even though you had it ceramic coated or not, you will still see increased heat being generated closer to your hood.

Think of it like an eye on the stove (manifold), hover your hand (hood) over it at about 12 inches. Now lower (since you can't raise the eye) your hand and the same heat being generated is now feeling hotter cause you are closer to it.

I would possibly try some wrap on it. Nothing like taking ALL prcautions. You can melt stuff under there if you are not carefull.

Good analogy. I also have a tubular manifold. Yes, under my hood does appear to be hotter, but it truly isn't from what I've noticed so far. I'm also gonna wrap mine up too.

I can tell you that it feels fine with it wrapped, but I wrapped it all before its first install so I couldn't offer a comparison.

You may start to melt fan shrouds, at least that's what happened to me.

Thanks for all of the replies. However, doesn't manifold wrap reduce the life of the manifold since it traps all the heat and moisture in the manifold? (This is what I read about after searching the forums for a couple of hours?) I was thinking about wraping it but for my standpoint, it would look like crap since the way my manifold was designed. Also, when you guys notice the increase under the hood temps, was it from daily regular driving (not mashing the pedal/boosting) or continous mashing/boosting? Because when I drove to school today normally, the heat that was release under the hood felt somewhat similar to what it felt like before I installed the tubular manifold, but when I started to boost, hence, I felt the extreme heat....

I know that the Jet-Hot black 2000 coating is very effective at reducing temps ( jdmawd ). Get some DEI Cool Tape and cover the underside of your hood and other components that would benefit from heat shielding. I've used it many times and it works very well. DEI is also the best, I've used others but had lower results.

According to the literature I read from DEI and Thermtec, those problems no longer exist with current products. Of course, they wouldn't exactly say otherwise, so take that for what its worth. I've only had my stuff wrapped since I think August of last year, and haven't removed/replaced any of it to inspect things and thus can't comment on their effects... oh, and don't have experience running without with the exact setup either, hehe. I sure hope I don't have any cracks yet

Of course there's going to be more heat when you're flooring it, and less when you're not. Did you seriously expect something else?

Create a custom heatshield if you don't want to use the thermal wrap.

Well unless you have the www.full-race.com manifold I don' think it would too tough if you knew what you were doing.
