1G Tsi Transmission and t-case

I'm in the midst of a transmission replacement on my 1990 talon tsi. I got the tranny in only to realize my t case spline is different on the new tranny. 23 spline vs 22( older transmission). Jus have a few questions:

When did the center shaft on the tranny change from a 22 spline to 23 spline?
Would it be easier to buy a 23 spline t case or replace the center shaft in the transmission?
And would the 23 spline t case accept my current rear wheel drive shaft?

Use the output shaft from your old transmission.
