Tsi fwd worth it or awd?

Hello guys just wanted to get an opinion I have previously owned a 2g AWD but now have a chance to purchase a TSI FWD its a very good deal just the shell basically, never driven a TSI FWD so before I buy it and build what do you guys think in comparison to the AWD?

Awd if your going to why not get it and be done with it, and never look back, im going awd next buying a shell or a car. I need more traction.

After owning both, I sold the FWD because IMO there is nothing in the would more amazing, than my car's AWD in the snow, launch, turns, summer, or anything. I would just stick to the AWD.

Most DSM'ers are going to say AWD, there better on the launch and handling, I also got a very good deal with my Tsi Fwd, I have never owned a turboed car until now, so it works for me, Basically it depends on what your going to do with it. If its going to be a daily driver it will work out very well. (to beat up some hondas), but if your planning to do a masive build and take it to the track every weekend, you'll be more happy with the AWD. hope it all works out for ya.

Thank you guys for the replies just wanted to get a little bit of feedback on the matter, quick question from a roll once you have the traction would you say same power or not on both stock cars?

I too would like to know about this. Sense they both have the same engine, are you going to see more power from the AWD than the Fwd? Logic shows that you will lose a little power with the AWD from a roll considering your splitting power between the front and rear, but honestly I have no Idea considering I have never owned an AWD. SO the feedback will help me as well.

The AWD gets less whp while the FWD keeps more of it of course, but the traction issue changes greatly with a AWD to FWD. I love my FWD and why not use it look how many people turn FWD hondas into fast cars....well some of them

I am not sure on exact power differnces, but the FWD should win it because all power is already into the wheels/road and the FWD is lighter. It is better in the top end. That's what makes FWD such great daily drivers. And better MPG

Well I loved my AWD and if I purchase the FWD I dont want to have any regrets, and maybe this question is for the FWD'ERS how do they hang against v8 such as mustangs and what not? seen several videos on youtube but I also had a friend that has a FWD that was pushing 400hp and it was very fast I agreed to look at this car on saturday and just wanted to weigh my options I want a fun daily driver but don't want to get spanked by just any car you know what I mean guys >>>>

The FWD won't let you down, you'll just have to put more time and effort ($) into keeping traction on your side. AWD is a huge amount of fun, but in good driving conditions (what you probably have in Georgia more often than not, and the only time a lot of guys will bring out their fun cars), they're not incredibly different. And as said above, with FWD you'll put more of your power down due to decreased drivetrain loss, as well as have better fuel economy.

If the price is good, I'd have no problem picking it up. There's a 1Gb Laser RS-T FWD relatively nearby for a good price, really wish I had room for it right now.

Thanks reynd good that mention the investing $ in traction if I do get it I was thinking of putting in a quaife LSD have had any experience with these LSD'S and sorry about that 1g ,

thats why im love with my fwd... almost every dsmer wants awd... and having a fast fwd that can grip turns head more than a fast awd... just my 2 cents...

How exactly are you wanting to hang with v8's? Out of the hole get and an awd. On the highway go with fwd.
As others have said the fwd doesn't suffer from a drivetrain loss the awd does. I own both cars: 99 GSX and 98 GST Spyder and I drive my Spyder around more than I do the GSX. No reason, just the one I prefer to drive. AWD for the traction and launching though

i'm new to the gst fwd department...coming from rwd sr20'd 240sx. And i love it! Though i wish i had a awd sometimes, for the most part the fwd serves me better i do a lot of highway driving back and forth from work and there's nothing like blowing past cars like there standing still...abiding by all traffic laws of course! neway end the end its what suits your needs the most! good luck!

Hey not to hijack anything but i see your from cartersville. i live about 35 miles away in chatsworth and i was wondering is there any junk yards with alot of DSMs down in that area. im having terrible luck here in chatsworth/dalton

I started out with an AWD dsm but sold that one. Now I have a FWD one and I don't mind front wheel drive at all. The way I look at it is that I am only looking for a fun DD, the MPG is better, and there are less parts to break. But not everybody has the same views as I do.

Hello Brandon to answer your question there are really no junkyards that have a lot of DSM around here I always go to Atlanta and South of it. It seems those places always have more inventory. Although I should mention Cagle Autoparts in Cartersville they have some of these cars at times. Go online into PULLAPART.COM and just check out their inventory you can see it online. Hope this bit of info helps out

From my experience, I wouldn't want to give up my AWD because of the lauches. Nothing gives me that huge grin like a good launch does. But like everyone else has said, its all about what you want to do with the car.

most FWD'ers, not all, end up swapping or selling for an AWD. Look at the amount of FWD DSMs for sale compared to AWD. AWD rules. just my 0.02$.

I built a FWD (quaife, ELHS, coilovers, 24.5MT's, 500+hp). I street tuned in 3rd gear - with more and more aggressive tunes, the car was spinning tires @ 90+mph in 3rd (225 tires). Car didnt track real straight on roads, but fine at the track. 2nd gear got pretty useless on street tires maybe 400hp? Rolling in third with traction, car was accelerating real hard. Keeping this in mind, opening the car up inevitably meant 120mph.

AWD now, I have good traction in 2nd gear. I can do base tunes near the house (Im sure the neighbors appreciate it). If your goals are <350hp, fwd may get you a faster car since less drivetrain is leeching. If they are more than that, you may start having trouble finding good traction (or are better at fine tuning suspension than me).

I have owned 3 awd and one fwd. Just got my 3rd awd and will never get another fwd car again.
