trunk and gas lid stuck??

The problem with my car happened recently. Since lately the weather has gotten frozen cold the car's trunk and gas lid lever, the one by the driver left foot area, Has gotten stuck and it won't budge. I would like to know if others had this problem and how you guys fixed it.

As far as I know, both of them are just pieces of cable that run from the lever to the trunk/fuel lid. I guess you can pop off the plastic trim that goes around it and see if you can open either of them manually by tugging on the wire with pliers/vice grips. Sorry if that's not too helpful.
