Trouble gettin into First Gear

Sup guys, i have problems trying to get my car into first gear. its a 2g GST 5 speed. first gear actually works but i have to jam the shifter hard in order to get it in gear.. this is the only gear thats giving me problems. could it be the cable???

Look on the tranny, theres a bracket tha holds the cables firm to the tranny....mine was way lose for some reason...time is guess?? Anyway I tightend it up and the tranny/shifting felt new. Also the cables are adjustable from the center console. Tighten them up if you dont find anything obviously abnormal.

I had the same problems you did before I tightend that bracket up.

Don't know if it helps but my 1g does it also, and to avoid grinding or forcing it, I just go to 2nd then back to 1st.

The shifter base sits on 4 bubber bushings. Replacing these with washers gets rid the spongyness when shifting Its like polyurethane motor mounts. Instead of the motor flexing back the power goes to the ground. Instead of the shifter base tilting....the shifter goes into gear.

I had a similar problem, and like said above tightened the mounts on the tranny. It helped a bit. Problem was cured after I changed the bushings. I went ahead and put a short throw in. It is awesome now. Here is the kit I got.

Along with the shifter base bushings, swap out the rubber shifter cable bushings for some metal skate bearings. The cables are found under the hood on top of the tranny if you didnt know what I meant by famous shifter bushing mod.

I had a similar problem with my 1G. The shifter cables were actually stretched out, I needed to replace my shifter cables.

What should I do?

Get a dremel and sand the insides of the holes smooth,but do a little at a time and test fit to make sure the holes arent to big. They will defineitely fit after that. Even if the bearings dont spin freely it will still work.
