Have friend that window blocked his evo. Anybody know which blocks will interchange, or where to find the info. I have a few 4g63 blocks around, just trying to see if any will work.
Thanks

he will need either a newer Evo block, one from an 8 or 9 will be most easially sourced in the states...OR if he really wants to have fun I believe the 2.4L block from the galant (early 2000 model I think...check out Evolutionm.net for more info on it) and I'm 99% sure the 3rd gen eclipse 2.4L block bolts up to the head. He would then have to build the block, but no one would ever know by looking that he upped the displacement by nearly 25%. The eclipse block would probably be cheaper to find than an evo Bottom end as I assume he needs pistons/rods/crank/block...in short, Everything. if he blew it apart once, its now is reason to build it...if he's not looking to rev to the moon, he should go the 2.4...great powerband with good spool times on the daily street car. Heck, it'd be great as long as he's not looking to up the rev limit on the evo. If he wants something to rev high, find another Evo block and build it up. Either way, the dsm blocks will not work

I have a friend that threw a rod through the block of his '03 evo two nights ago as well. The car had 103,000, was driven hard, and usually had a poor tune and a rough life all together though. He said he is going to try to sell it for $10k with the blown motor

Also the newer Kia Optimas have a DOHC 4g64 2.4 with an Evo-Style head.

This is correct. I have one and can confirm. The 2.4L block is a 7-bolt with split thrust bearing main design, along with having block oil squirters and a semi-forward facing oil filter housing. It also has a two-piece cast aluminum/pressed steel oil pan in stock form. The cylinder head is nearly identical to an Evo 8 head with the exception of a couple passages need to be plugged to be used on an Evo. If I remember correctly, the valves are the same size, along with the combustion chamber. It also has 3mm lifters, but has weak cams, and pressed steel rockers. The valve cover is essentially the same as an Evo 8.

This engine is NOT a direct bolt-in though for a DSM AWD setup for a few reasons. First, the most important thing is the bellhousing mounting flange is different, and is missing one mounting point and the dowel locations are different for use on a 2G AWD. The mounting flange SHOULD be bolt-on though for an Evo 4-9 transmission Second, the block would need several coolant passages plugged on the block deck to be used with a 1G or 2G 4G63 cylinder head. You shouldn't have too many problems though if you ran an Evo 4-8 cylinder head though.

I was originally going to use this motor as a 2.4L in my Eclipse, but ended up raping it for its crank. If you want the block, I have the bare block and a box full of parts off it -- I do not have the cylinder head or rotating assembly anymore though. It was a hydro-lock motor, and will need a .020"-over to be run. PM me if you want.

Other than that, it has puny rods and 9:1 pistons that are really puny as well. The best part is the crank -- 100mm 7-bolt stroker crank that can be run in all 7-bolt 4G63 applications.
