Alright, so I'm in the middle of swapping a 6 bolt into my car. I have my old broken 7 bolt out, and the transmission also. I went to go and remove the transmission, and I can't get it undone. I've remove the bolts all around it, and the trans is about 2" away from where it was connected. Problem is, that shaft in the middle that the clutch holds onto is NOT letting go, so I can't pull the rest of the trans away. Is there something that I need to undo or loosen to allow me to get the transmission out? I kind of can't go on with the swap until I get the trans away, and get the parts I need from my 7 bolt off...

We had a similar problem it was like 2' away from the motor but wouldn't move....whole problem it wasn't level when we were trying to pull it off...

Hope it helps
Jesse

Sometimes they hang on prettty tight. Just make sure you have ALL of the bolts off. One might be trying to hide from you.

So, you suggest to make it completely level while pulling it out and it should be easier?

I've had a similar problem like this on an older honda prelude and it also was'nt level. Made sure everything was level and pull straight back, everything was golden.

A month ago I was trying to remove my transmission so i can rebuild it.I thought i had removed everything..but i forgot to removed the transmission mount which was on the passenger side firewall. theres 3 bolts that goes to the tranny..i found it easier to remove the tranny when this transmission mount is removed completely.

it's much easier to lower the motor down some, to clear that curved part of the subframe right at the back of the wheel well.. everyone who's pulled a tranny must know what I'm talking about, it's the single biggest pain to manuevering the tranny in and out.. check to see your clearance there.. it's right near where the passenger axle goes into the tranny.

Nobody speaks of using the transmission floor jacks that are currently in existance. They have a wider wheelbase, a cradle type structure, and straps to secure the load. I spent three hours looking for one in my town and nobody seems to have one. Do most of you guys use the same floor jack that you use to lift your cars or what? How do you safely secure the load of the tranny onto it? I do NOT want to kill myself in the process.:sosad:

I just used my regular floor jack with a piece of wood, get a friend to help you with steadying the tranny and such..

These work good for transmissions.

So, have you personally had success with this device or know somebody who has? I may check it out seeing how buying the jack is still cheaper than paying some bozo mechanic to fix the problem for me. Last time I did that they ruined my TOB and didnt adjust my shifter linkage. He thought something was just wrong with my car AFTER he was done fixing it. :toobad:

My brother and I just finished taking his trans out of his 2g for the first time and we used a motorcyle jack (not the same brand, but similar). It worked just fine.

I have not used one. But I know three other people that have used them and like them alot. I will be buying one the next time I remove the tranny. I usually slide the tranny under the car and lift it up from the top by hand.
