1G Transmission issues, need some help and advice

Hi, my transmission on my 92 is acting up. 5th gear pops out within 3 seconds of putting it in gear, everytime, and first and second gear will grind in sometimes or go in smooth as butter. Ive noticed it will grind in more when i dont wiggle it around first to try to get it in gear. Now, my question is, is this a linkage problem or a full out transmission problem? Also, if it is a linkage problem, how do i adjust it, and if its a trans problem, where can i get one for as cheap as possible in the NJ area? Thanks in advance!

Your linkage down by your shifter, under the boot, is threaded with a nut that you can adjust everything with. I dont know if there is a spec for the linkage but just use trial and error when it comes to adjusting. As far as your trans goes, you might want to pull the end case off and check your 5th gear reataining nut, they're notorious for backing themselves off. 108 ft lbs is spec

Well i just adjusted the clutch actually and the problems went away. Is that weird? Ill check the retaining nut to make sure.

When you pull the case off pay special attention to the wave spring and some other components that are set in the case, they tend to fall out and i had a hard time figuring out how they all went back on. No, its not weird that adjusting your clutch solved the problem, chances are it wasn't dis/engaging properly.

Well the trans is coming off tomorrow. My guess is that its just the clutch needing to be replaced. But ill keep you posted.
