I am checking the trans fluid level after a clutch swap, and that mofo is pretty tight. its not cross threaded and the head is not going to strip, but it feels a little tight for my comfort? Is this normal? theres no debris on the bolt or threads in the trans...

I can get it in and out just fine, its just really frikkin tight.

i just finished changing my transmission fluid... and my fill plug went in very easy until it was all the way in...

dammit. MY transfer case went in really smooth, so thats why i am worried. i just soaked the bolt in chemtool, cleaned it with brake cleaner and air blew it. should be good, but nooooo it still tight. and the threads show no signs of damage

im not sure what you could use... but have you tried cleaning the actual threads on the transmission?

if you fill it from the factory fill hole untill the oil spills out like the manual says to do than you end up with 2 and a half quarts in the trans. theres a bolt on the top of the tranny that you can use as a fill also. on my 2g tranny one of the shifter cables covers the bolt making the bolt kind of hard to see. but if you fill it from the top you can fill it with 3 quarts of oil and get the gears more submerged in oil.

never knew about this trick untill my friend bought a shep tranny and that was the exact instructions on how to fill it. it also called for redline 90weight oil thats actually not to thick at all. but yeah the factory oil fill bolt doesnt have to be used. theres a bolt on top that can be used to fill and it will make possible to pack a extra 1/2qt of oil in that baby

cool man, so you do 3full bottles of oil when you fill it? and what weight and what brand do you run? i used to use that lucas additive stuff. you know sometimes at like shucks or napa you'll see the lil see thru plastic dispaly with plastic lil gears in there and ya turn 'em with regualar oil and you turn one with the lucas additive and see the oil go way further up the gears. yeah, i used to run that crap but i think its WAY to thick and doesnt work like what they say it does. i run thinner oil and just run a little bit more of it to submege the gears a little bit further

I was under the impression overfilling was a bad idea... There must be a reason engineers decided to put the plug there and not higher. Especially if it meant better life from the trans. WTF

Anyway, it comes on and off just fine, just a little tighter than most similar fill drain bolts like the oil drain, xcase drain are real smooth. this ones just tight. Ill just not make it an issue, I wont be draining on a weekly basis.

Just felt a little tight for my comfort.
