Is it easy to convert an automatic transmission into a manual transmission?

Also, does the conversion effect any negative performance to the car?

I don't own a 2G GSX right now, but if it was an automatic and I would like to change the
the transmission over to manual what effects will it have on the car?

P.S.

Oh I was just curious about something that was bugging me

I just want to know
Whats so good about a DSMlink? and why bother to have it?

What is its purpose? And how is it beneficial to improving your 2G DSM?

Sorry I dont know anything about DSMlinks or EPROMs, but after reading a post I understand about the ECU EPROMS now, but dont understand about the DSMlink.

Also, why did they discontinue manufacture on the chip if so many people want it?

I know I am a fellow newbie, but I figured I would offer an explanation about Auto-Manual conversions. in General.

First Question: In most cars, It's an expensive, if not a time consuming process.
You need to buy a Manual transmission, Clutch pedal, master cylinder, Slave Cylinder, fluid lines, new mounts (for the pedal). Then, depending on if you want to do the work yourself, or perhaps pay some one, there is time and effort involved, depending on your level of skill, you may go through several iterations before you get it right.

Second Question: Considering the fact we are talking about a 2G, there would be a change in acceleration and fuel economy.

The other thing you have to look into is the differentials. Changing transmissions can cause serious damage to diffs if you don't get the Exact same drive ratio on the front as the back. If the front diff is a different ratio than the rear, you will tear your center differential apart.

The cost of trying to change a automatic to Manual would be MORE than what it would be to just buy a Manual in the first place. You could easily Find and buy a manual GSX and give it a good tune up before even tuning it for the cost of converting an auto to manual. (That's not mentioning differential repair/replacement.)

As for the rest, I don't know. Hope this helps.
