On wed i put a new oil pan in my 95 gsx auto, and when i started it I heard a grinding noise like a motor about to blow. So I took back off the transfer case and downpipe, and it still had a grinding nose but not as loud. I replaced the starter, and with the transfer case off their was no noise at all. But with the transfer case back on it started making that noise again i haven't driven it with that noise. any way my question is what should i do about this rebuild or replace the transfer case? could it be the output shaft on the tranny?

p.s. i did check the fluid level it only a hair low

It sounds like something is hitting the transfer case. What else did you remove when you installed a new oil pan?

Check to see if the back of the flywheel is touching the transfer case. I bought my CAR AND NOTICED that the inspection plate was missing. (Wierd) so i look and see that the flywheel was extremely close to the transfer case and actually rubbed some of it off. Dunno how or why. im still unraviling the mysteries that the previous owner sold me. (That bastad)
