hey guys I know that theres a problem with the 1 g AWD's and obviously I own one......the problem is that when the fluid / lubrication wears down in the transfer case the gears start to lock up when you get above 70 mph or so.....well this has just recently happened to me and I wasn't happy to say the least....I was reading something on the internet where it said that the dealerships honor a transfer case replacment becasue there is a life time warrenty on them and also it is a real common problem, almost a recall....just wondering if anyone has had this problem and has actually got it fixed at a dealership for free.....thanks a lot
Nick

Join the club! I have a 3kg vr4 and 2 2g awd's and have locked up twice now! My stealth started making a grinding sound so I parked because I was gutting it for the track anyway. So a couple months later I got my recall letter from Dodge. I limped it to them and they replaced it for free! I was thrilled. About half way home, i started hearing the whine... then BOOM... in the curb. Well, the paided for the second one too.

My GSX however, I haven't gotten a letter. So I'm curious myself if I can just take it to them for a new one. Although I've already got a new one, plus a spare, the trashed one I have isn't worth rebuilding.

I have been going back and forth with about 5 dealerships now about the recall. None of them want to work on my car. I get all kinds of bs from them, ex. "we dont have the necessary tools", "our mechanic that works on those cars is away on training(he has been on training for about 2 months now). I actually went to buy the yokeand do it myself, which is the fault with the x-fer case and they are on national back order from mitsu.

I called MMCA (I think) and bitched to them. I made THEM call my local Chrysler dealership, and after threatening the Service Manager that I was coming in next with a lawyer...you can bet that car was fixed in 2 days. Plus, I had the paperwork stating that the recall had to be performed as many times as needed.

The bottom line is that if they don't fix it, they are being negligent. Best of luck though, because I know that some dealerships are an absolute pain to talk into working on it.

But that also makes me wonder, how can you be sure that they aren't just going to do a horrible job on it and go out and flog on your car shortly thereafter?

Absolutely! Like the first one I had replaced. I'm convinced the moron forgot to put fluid in it when he was done. Why else would a brand new t-case lock up?

Alright thanks a lot guys....im basically jsut goign to go to the dealership and tell them to do it..I have all the stuff printed out saying that its a life time warrenty on the transfer case and that the fix should be preformed as much as needed.....Ill update and tell you guys if they did it....thanks for the help
