trans help please!!

ok to start off, i have a 97 eclipse gst spyder. it is all stock, well today the trans started to act up. it seens like it is taking off in third gear an then it wont shift into over drive eather, an if u put it in low it still takes off the same. any ideas of what that could be. an i found a trans for a 2.0 nonturbo are they the same or no. any help would be realy cool thanks.

I had the same problem last year. Sounds like it's in limp mode which is 3rd gear. Mine ended up being the tcu, so if you can either take it to a local auto transmission shop. You can also take the tcu out and look and see if there are any burn spots on it.

ok you lost me at tcu i am new to the dsm but i pick up fast . is the tcu the black part on the top of the trans. o an when u get going it wont down shift eather to pass or any thing

Just to clarify it's an auto transmission right? If so the tcu is the transmission computing unit. Which if there's a problem causing it to be in limp mode, it would be stuck in 3rd gear.

ok thats what i thought it was an yes it is a auto trans (junk need a five speed) an yea i put it in drive an it will go but really slow then hits boost an picks up but never shifts an it wont go to od eather. an if you put it in low it dose the same thing as drive. i hate auto trans. but the girl friend wanted it. i drive a 240sx ka-t five speed.

Yeah I would definitely take it to an auto shop. The one I took mine too did an electrical check for mine for $75 and that will tell you what the problem is. Turns out that the owner had gotten the tcu rebuilt and when he got in an accident the computer wasn't grounded well. So it got fried and was stuck in limp mode like the problems your having.

The auto trans is awsome..There nothing wrong with an auto..Some of the fastest dsm's out there are auto..Try finding a new tcu..It's very simple to change as well..Shouldn't cost you that much to buy here on tuners..

i will run it by the trans shop tomarow they charge like 45 to hook this computer to it (not the code reader like auto zone) there is a guy on craigs list selling a five speed swap for a 2.0 non turbo. but i have been told that a the non turbo trans wont fit the 2.0 turbo motor is this true? i have been lookn an have not found any thing saying it wont, but havent found any thing that says it will eather .

if it turns out to be the tcu then i will for sure pm him cause there is not any eclipses in the junk yard around here people werck them put them in the back yard an buy another an hord the parts .

If you swap to a 5 speed you might also have to swap the rearend as well..I know it's true with 1g's but I'm not sure if it's the same scenario for 2g's..

PM the guy I put in my last post..I can tell you for sure that you need a new tcu..So why take it to the shop and burn more money..Unless they are going to replace it for you..But still it's probably going to cost from them 200$ for a new tcu..Just speculating..

If you can't read the dsm classidieds at this moment..I would check craigslist for dsm partouts..Or get your post count up and deal with the good people on tuners..

yea if its the tuc i will change my shelf i doint like other peolpe tuching my cars (trust issue) an why the rear end? its a gst not the gsx dont have a rearend for say. i like this site there are people on it i checked out another site an no one was one it, was a gost site .

Ohh sorry if its a gst you will be fine to change to a 5speed..But ya for sure the tcu is junk..Replace it and you will be good to go..

ok , an so the five speed off a non turbo 2.0 will work on my turbo 2.0.

ok i drove my car today, an it is shifting from 1,2,d but no over drive an you still caint put it in l or 2nd an it take off right. What all would i need to do a five speed swap what parts besides the trans an clutch lines an pedles?

shit i doint need the wiring for m/t i can just put it in an go beside all the clutch stuff? see i thought i would have to change the ceu an all like i had to for the saturn i did. who cares about rev lights an cruse, cruse dont work any way .

ok the trans shift through all gears but over drive . what you guys think still tcu?

Did you change anything? If it's just not going into overdrive now its probably the end clutch. not too hard to do yourself either.

Get a new tcu..The car is in limp mode..Start with the simplest thing first, and change out the tcu..

Hey guys i just had a sacan ran on my trans, this is the code I got p1750 witch means (Solenoid Assembly) dose anyone know what this is an how to fix it.

Either try replacing the tcu or get the solenoids tested with a multimeter.

100% TCM. Replace it.

The solenoids do actually fail without the TCU failing. The TCU's on the 97 are nowhere near as bad as the 1g's. 2g non-turbo trans will not work on a turbo car
