I have a 95 Talon turbo with an A/T
I've owned the car for a year, it now has 160,000 miles on it now.
The tranny has always kinda had little tweeks about it, like once in awhile it would shift hard and things like that.
Well today it just went.
Was driving and it just started slipping, it might downshift or just stay in that gear. It would not go into any gear. Just about everything a tranny could do to screw up it is doing all of the sudden.
I just took it to the store real quick and it started out fine until i got like 2 blocks away, then it all started again.
I have never changed the oil and it didn't look to awful bad, not sure if its ever been changed before.
I'm going to jack it up and check the connectors and wiring to make sure then i'll drop the pan.
Any ideas?
Is it toast or is there some nice little fix for this?
Thanks for the help
Jay

DAMMMM. Never changed the fluids. I change my MT fluid every 5,000 miles with the full syn engine oil. When I had my 1993 eclipse with an AT I changed the fluid and filter every 15,000 - 20,000 miles.

As long as it still works you could try adding an additive like lucas to it.

Change the fluid and the filter. When inside the transmission pan there should be a magnet to catch all the metal debris that could be floating arround. It should be clung on the oil pan on the inside. If its not there I would get a 1 inch or bigger circular magnet and put in in there colse to the trans filter pickup hole.

I guarentee that you fill find a black residue all ofer in the trans. That comes with age and miles. It's like brake dust basically. Just take the pan and spray it out with brake cleaner fluid and make sure its dry before you put it back on the trans.

Your end-clutch might be going bad, the band in the trans might be bent or wore out, I would add lucas when filled back up.

definitely do not put any magic trans fix fluid in there.

that will surely kill it.

You need to properly diagnose it. there are some pretty good a/t specific forums out there, over on talk for one.

It could be something easy like an end clutch or blown seal causing low line pressure. it could just be low on fluid.

it could be alot of things.

Ok tore into it last night.
The fluid was actually overful a little.
The magnets had metal on them but nothing more then any other tranny i've torn into.
The fluid had a red tint still but was kinda brown looking when i was draining it.
The filter....well it didn't seems to dirty but i couldn't really tell since the filter itself was brown.
I'm going to throw a filter in and hope for the best right now.
I was just curious if there some modulator or sensor that goes bad on this model or not.
Thanks for the help guys

im no tranny guy... but these trans are electronically controlled. The solenoids control line pressure and gear position by being Pulse Width Modulated. Not just a simple on or off.

If the tranny is freaking out, it might be worth pulling the TCU out and checking the caps to make sure it hasnt taken a shit on you. Same thing as teh caps issue with the ECU.

hit up Transdude on here, he should be able to tell you whats wrong with it.

You mean the Capaciters in the TCU right?
To see if they are blown

correct.

if the tcu is freaked out for whatever reason the only fwd gear you will have will be 3rd. Seems like that would be hell on the tranny stuck in 3rd all the time.

Ah ok, well i'm not even getting that.
I would be happy with that right now LOL
Throwing in a new filter in a few and hoping the gods shine on me.
But i might end up yanking that out and checking it anyway.

What you are experiencing is the effect of either the pump going out or the filter being clogged. I have two a/t dsm's. Change the fluid. I use the b&m trickshift and put a new filter in. That should solve your problems unless your pump is going out.

As i was at the store buying oil this thought came into my head.....
What's the chances the previous owners actually looked into what oil is the proper oil to use for this car.
Hmmmm just a thought.
Cleaning the gasket area and throwing the oil in.
How much of that trick shidt do you use? All trick shift or just a quart or 2?

Well got the filter and oil changed and so far so good.
Not going to hold my breath though.
Time to start looking for a new tranny.
Thank you for the help
