Hi, I have a '90 Eclipse 2.0 Turbo FWD 5spd. I have my motor just about done and put back together after a full rebuild and I have a question about my tranny. When I pulled the motor and tranny I had the car and driven it for about a year when the tranny just started to "surge" when going down the road in 5th gear. By surge I mean it felt and sounded like it was trying to slip out of gear. It also became harder to shift all of the gears and it began to grind when I could get it in. If you think I can re-use this tranny i.e. my have just been the slave cylinder or something external, let me know... The other questionis this. A local junkyard has about a '93 Laser with a 1.8 5spd. it shifts fine. Really fine actually. Will I be able to use this tranny in my car with my 2.0 Turbo? Any info or suggestions you guys can give me would be a huge help! Thanks.

Sounds like bad syncro's and yes you can use the 1.8 tranney i belive it just has Shorter gear ratio's.

Dont use a n/t tranny in a turbo'd car, there are many, many, many threads on this. Not sure what would cause the "surging", how is you tranny fluid level? It would also be better to have your current one rebuilt, it is 90$ for a better then OEM rebuild on FWD tranny's.
