The tranny has 118xxx on it and I got a brand new motor to put it with, its 2g AWD, I didnt have a problem with the tranny before I removed the bad motor, should I rebuild it or not? If so which I want to do, which seals and bearings should I replace? and I am looking for exact names. Thanks for the help

The only thing I might do is remove the end cover and check the shaft nuts that are sometimes prone to loosen. I know it's a 1g thing and may have transferred over to the 2g's. If it's otherwise not giving you problems, then I'd change to synchromesh fluid and install some bearings in the shifters instead of the rubber bushings.

Good Luck

If its working properly, then why rebuild it? Unless you plan on beating the piss out of the car at the track or something, then I would leave it alone for now, or until it goes.

You would not believe how much of a difference in shifting it made on my Galant when I tightened those two 36mm nuts. I was about 1 week away from sending my tranny to Shep for a rebuild and tightening those two nuts fixed all of my problems.

I can't stress this enough...CHECK those nuts! My car was having an issue where it started coming out of 2nd gear when I was cruising. When I pulled the tranny cover off, I had destroyed the bearings and race on the intermediate shaft from that nut being loose. Also, a piece of that race got lodged in with the front diff and put a nice little hole in the back of my tranny.

If you want to rebuild it you might as well replace everything that looks worn. If you have not seen this, it is a good vfaq on rebuilding.

How do I tighen those two 36mm nuts you're talking about? And where are they in the trany? I don't have to drop it to tighten them do I?

No, you do not have to drop it. Just remove the passenger tire and take off the first section of the case. (refer to that guide above for reinstallation of the ring that is going to fall out. ;)

Actually that guide will show you the best way to tighten it (I always put a penny in between the gears and tightened it).
