Im a new guy. i did some searching and came up with nothing. I got a 91 Talon tsi the other day and im noticing that when i try and take off in first gear it will pop out if i don't hold the shifter firmly in gear. it only dose this with first and its worrying me. Im probably going to need a tranny rebuild, if so what kinda cost is that going to be. I will remove the tranny myself to make it cheaper but im still worryed that this is going to be expensive...or more expensive than my vw scirocco.

Thanks for the link. I have already gone over it before. that guy even said he didn't finish it. wich makes the directions kinda pointless. takes it apart and wusses out. im willing to try it but i would like to have some credible directions. ware it acualy worked.

ive rebuilt my fwd trans goin on those directions, *basically* the same just minus a shaft or so, but then again i had the cushion of knowing i had a spare decent trans in the garage, i havent had any previous trans experience, and all went well, just be meticulous and use a lot of sandwhich bags for parts pm me if u hav ne questions reguarding build manuals, i have one

your comming out gear should be due to either the shiftrail and or detent ball. How do 2nd and rev go in and out? are they super easy or is there some good resistance? At the end of the trannywhere the endcap is there is 3-12mm bolts right next to each other--I do believe the top one is for 1st you can pull them out and check those detent balls for roundness they are like a 1/4" ball bearing. If you pull theme DONT LOOSE IT--there is a spring between the plug and the ball and the ball may not just fall out you might have to use a magnet. If those detents look good, its probably the shift rail. Good luck and may the force be with you. :thumb: :laser:

Thanks guys for the info. Yesturday i drained the tranny fluid and filled it up with some Royal Purple. IT shifts way way better than before. As always the stock second gear is grinding slightly...only if i drop it into second fast  and the same with 4th gear.

I did manage to keep it from poping out of first yesturday. If you all can help me figure this out. it will only pop out of first if i lug the egine while sliping the clutch into first. Im used to not giving a whole lot of gas when i shift into first in my vw so i figured it would be the same. It shouldl work but it dosn't. NOw if i rev the engine around 3k rpm and slip it into first it will be just fine. any ideas on that.

Also i may be having the tranny rebuilt later this spring but Pina Motorsports ( pinamotorsports.com ) in Kent Washington. I live but 30 miles from them and they are very knolegable about there DSMs. I just cant justify sending my tranny to TRE or that other place. :talon:
