hey everyone i'm kinda new to this whole dsm scene but my friends have been in it along time and are away right now so they cant help. but anyway today i purchased a 1995 talon tsi fwd with 72,000 miles on it. i test drove it for roughly 20 minutes and didnt have any problems with it. but after i paid for it drove it home 60 miles and then went to my friends house... anyway he asked to drive it around the block so i let him and all, but when he went to back up he sliped off the clutch and it grinded. anyway after he gets back i get in my car and go to drive home but deciede to stop to fill up on gas at wawa, anyway about 3/4 of the way to wawa i stoped at a red light, and went to go but couldnt get it into any gears, finally got it into 2nd and then had no problem going into the others, again i come to a stop to turn into wawa and again cant get it into any gear but 2nd... i then stop and get gas get back in the car and it goes into gear no problem.. then i stop again at the stop sign @ wawa to leave and i cant get it into gear again... this happen again when i had to stop again... does anyone know what the hell is wrong... the car has a new clutch and everything... i'm soo confused... please help!!

thanks

Try pumping the clutch pedal like you're pumping up the brakes. If this makes an improvement no matter how temporary, you may need a new clutch master cylinder or clutch slave.Pump 15 to 20 times kind of fast. Then see if it goes right in.

If the clutch is engaging right at the floor and getting into first gear is almost impossible and the other gears are fine, I would suspicion master cylinder or possible air in line.

Do as spyderman said, bleed it. If that doesn't help then we have other places we can go. Now, if all gears are hard, with or without clutch usage, then it could be in the transmission.

Bleed it first.

Good Luck

ok well i got in my car dismorning and drove it to work... i didnt have any problems with the car goign into gear today... except it did become rough a little here and there... also i notice the clutch comes out all but liek 1-2 inches and then aftere a second or two it comes out the 1 inch or so.... anyone have any ideas... i'm takign it over to my boys garage tonight for him to go over the car....

changing the fluid isent going to hurt matters either, probably wasent ever changed. Get some synchromesh and have at it.

i.e. transaxle fluid. But while you are at it change out the clutch fluid and bleed it. There are also some things to check to see if your clutch master and slave cylinders are good, which it sounds like they aren't. While you are under the car pull the boot off of the slave cylinder. If has any fluid in it your slave is bad. Also crawl under your dash and find the master cylinder poking through the firewall. If there is fluid staining the wall under it, it is bad. Check both of those before you do anything else.
